636580 2008-02-07 06:59:00 Well, I don't know if it's a conspiracy or not. But just in case, tonight I will take the phone lead and leave it outside in case salt water comes flooding in during the night. But wait - I don't have a phone lead. Was this a premonition ? R2x1 (4628)

636588 2008-02-09 16:24:00 Looking at hat map (great map) I note there are more cables going to Alaska ! than NZ !

They'd better build a couple more for us or we could out of action for weeks !..........
Did you notice the new planned one for Sydney? A Telstra project IIRC. It's got much higher capacity than than the total existing cables that ring there way through NZ , these being the existing "Southern Cross" Apparently there's also a plan to extend that run to over here, but of course this won't happen until existing cables are thrashed to the limits, and the shown plans are completed. These 2 events are likely to occur at similar time.

Sydney to Wellington would make a HUGE amount of sense from a redundancy point of view, and of course Wellington and CHCH were allowed to have a Telstra network, (John Banks didn't want the disruption and digging to install something he possibly didn't understand) so feeding Wellington would make more sense for Telstra, but that's just assumption on my part.
