2009-07-01 03:58:00 | It better be cheap for those having Vista Ultimate. I mean, poor suckers who bought Vista Ultimate would be gutted to find out they have to pay a zillion to upgrade to 7 Ultimate. Oh, and just so you know, I didn't buy my Vista Ultimate - won it from PCWorld! :D

2009-07-01 04:42:00 | Pricing details.... Microsoft on Thursday unveiled pricing details for its highly anticipated Windows 7 operating system, which is expected to be available in stores on Oct. 22. The software maker also announced a program that starts Friday under which consumers can pre-order Windows 7 for the next two weeks at discounts of more than 50%. The full version of Windows 7 Home Premium is priced at $199, with an upgrade from Vista or XP costing $119. The full version of Windows 7 Professional is $299, with upgrades going for $199. Windows 7 Ultimate is priced at $319, with the upgrade version at $219. In what's perhaps a nod to the recession and increased competition in the software market, the prices are about 10% less than what Microsoft charged for the corresponding versions of Windows Vista when that product shipped in January of 2007. Thats from one of my NZ suppliers, however I know the 50% discount is only for US customers so not sure if the prices are NZ$ or US$

Edited: just had a call from MS trying to sell me servers - asked about pricing for W7 :xmouth: The buggers are staying tight lipped |

2009-07-01 21:04:00 | Been using Win 7 RC 7100 since it was released,I upgraded Vista Home Premium (after backing up),so far not only has it been quicker but better all round so after seeing this www.crn.com.au and if NZ gets the same pricing (exchange rate adjusted ,Home Premium $377,Professional $567, ouch) ,I may think twice about Win 7 seeming I purchased a new Desktop on boxing day. Will be interesting seeing NZ pricing.

2009-07-02 06:06:00 | People who say that they won't even bother upgrading from XP for W7 are morons. And from my reading there is a lot of people who have this mind set, not necessarily from here, but around the place I have seen this trend. I personally probably won't be able to afford upgrading to W7 with this computer as I will acquire W7 with my next build probably around Christmas time as my current system will be 2 years old and already the 8600GT I have in it is struggling with some very intensive games I throw at it. | Tuneznz (13203) | |
2009-07-02 06:40:00 | Sooner or later people who dont want to upgrade to the newer OS's will have problems, bit like W98 - new motherboards, and many programs wont work on the older OS's. When Xp goes this way - And it will - then there will be no choice if the person wants to use windows, the only other options is to use a different OS, then theres the learning curve of learning that.

2009-07-02 07:42:00 | Wainuitech you raise some very good points. I had a lady whos os was W95 she would upgrade to W98 but not to xp because of the belief she was going to be unable to use the new gui... Some people huh? | Tuneznz (13203) | |
2009-07-02 08:16:00 | Yes Tuneznz - see this a lot - some people get real upset if a Old Motherboard Blows, and even though they have the legal software (win98) it simply wont work on the new Hardware. Many people get stuck in their ways - sometimes this is good, other times its a not so good. | wainuitech (129) | |
