And at Xmas they can look at 35 year old copies of the Listener to read reviews of the current holiday TV programs. |

2008-02-03 21:20:00 | I thought I was the only one that did that. I must tell my wife as she reckons I am the only one in NZ that keeps records so long. My ex partner says the same as your wife ! I'm glad I'm not alone ! Regards Digby

2008-02-03 21:45:00 | Mercury, have they reduced the time period for Finacial Records? salary and wages were 7 years and finacial were 10 plus the current years working. Have they finally gone over to computer stored records, it was muted 15 years ago!. We have had 8 years of Labour but nothing seems to have done on a number of things: youth crime, education, benson-pope etc. Lurking.

2008-02-03 21:57:00 | I was under the impression it was 7 years in the boxes plus the current year in files. I'm fairly certain I asked my accountant before having a big throw out a couple of years ago. Now you've made me wonder if I did ask him. Any accountants here to confirm it? | Mercury (1316) | |
2008-02-05 22:25:00 | Merc. it does now appear to be 7 years. See links below. www.ird.govt.nz www.ird.govt.nz Lurks.

2008-02-06 02:16:00 | Ah good. Means I won't have to unburn, unbury and unshread 3 years worth. 7 years is actually quite good for personal ones too. Means you probably have the receipt for the electric drill etc that faults under warranty. And you can tell how old that computer really is.

2008-02-07 03:59:00 | Merc., it comes back to me now!. The big one was Invoices and they were sent away for Microfilming onto fiche. Wonder how much they can store on DVD's today,or do they still put it all on those large washing machine drives?. Accounting must be great in this day and age. Lurks.

2008-02-07 07:41:00 | Write invoices in database. Back up database. Keep forever. (Within 3 years disks unable to be read due to change in technology. But that's another story). | Mercury (1316) | |
