636201 2008-02-03 04:49:00 IP's subnets and gateways are just for the router.

And the IP wouldnt always be the same.

If someone else is using the same router (if theyre using one), it'll be the same gateway / subnet. And IP's can change.

And I would say theyre not much use (thats if youre not on BB, even if you've got an ADSL modem/router).

You would still have to put the username/pw in the router to connect.

636202 2008-02-03 05:08:00 yes i no but i hav all his ip addresses and all network info copied down, including my friends passwaord and everything, so if i copied them into win xp or vista and if i hav the same modem, then log on with his username and everything will it work? AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116)
636203 2008-02-03 05:14:00 Probably will work.

It depends if the ISP checks the password etc against the phone its on.

636204 2008-02-03 09:51:00 Well I borrowed a router off someone who still had their paradise username and password stored in it, worked fine on their account at my house (and I have xtra for my ISP, not paradise) - obviously I changed it to my own username and password, but I was able to get full internet access on their account too.

Though that may not work for all ISP and you will definitely need ADSL enabled on your line if you are using that

Your TXT generation english and the lack of grammer and spelling does make it very difficult to fully understand what your post actually said.

636207 2008-02-03 17:46:00 I strongly recommend you avoid connecting with someone else's account, as there is a risk of simultaneous connection. Some ISPs will bump the older connection off their network, and some will charge for the second connection - for example Xnet charges $5/hour for any additional connections to its network under the same username. Your poor victim will be landed with a huge bill, and you will be liable for it, as connections can be traced to the phoneline they are made from. Erayd (23)
636208 2008-02-03 18:40:00 Not strictly true - some people are still on Go Large.

Off topic - but Telecom are getting sued (www.stuff.co.nz) by the Commerce Commission for their little Go Large white lie...

636209 2008-02-03 19:20:00 I got a replacement D-Link modem from Xtra, it was all packaged as if it was new, I opened it up, still new packaging. Plugged it in and I was able to connect to the net without entering a username and password.

Looked in the config and it had some random username, not a default Xtra one. (needless to say I changed this as soon as I saw it)
