2008-02-01 07:01:00 | FreeMarket - We took the wrong choice years ago. But... power companies want to build more generation capacity, and have for years. Transpower wants to put more power transmission capacity in, and have for years.

2008-02-01 07:24:00 | Until my electricity bill starts getting smaller or at least stabilizes, all the new changes and juggling of companies and name changing mean absolutely nothing except inefficiency (being ripped off by scammers in suits with University business degrees promoting American neo-con policies). | zqwerty (97) | |

2008-02-21 02:31:00 | Now we are getting exploding cables and transformers, due to electricity infrastructure problems and power outages stuff.co.nz And earlier in the month in Auckland stuff.co.nz They are also now considering reopening the second cook strait cable that was shut down becuase it was considered old and potentially dangerous. In our local paper, it said that if they do reopen it and it blows up at the haywards power station, it could potentially cause a Mercury cloud over the entire Wellington region. This is real third world stuff.

2008-02-21 08:49:00 | Stuff Nuclear ! Lets build two big coal fired power stations - one in each island. Stuff the Greenies ! And lets build some proper power cables. China builds one new coal fired power station a week (they say). So we should be able to build one every ten years. We have mountains of coal in Huntly and the SI. And we are a long thin country with wind blowing across to blow any pollution away. A country needs good infrastucture. Regards Digby

2008-02-21 11:18:00 | Now we are getting exploding cables and transformers, due to electricity infrastructure problems and power outages stuff.co.nz And earlier in the month in Auckland stuff.co.nz They are also now considering reopening the second cook strait cable that was shut down becuase it was considered old and potentially dangerous. In our local paper, it said that if they do reopen it and it blows up at the haywards power station, it could potentially cause a Mercury cloud over the entire Wellington region. This is real third world stuff. There would not be a problem with a "Mercury cloud" over Wellington. We people whom were born in Wellington have had to put up with hot air from Parliament anyway. As a country we have had to put up with taxes that appear to be not spent wisely or for the reason the said tax is collected. If we take roading then we are taxed via Petrol tax and road user charges for example. Have the roads through New Zealand as a whole improved as a result? I want some motorways where I live but I can not see that happening before I snuff it. Do you remember the lifetime drivers licence issued and you did not have to renew. Then we get the photo drivers licence and this is now a rather large industry. We have had changes in Health, Roading, Police, Justice system, Law changes, Amendments to the law changes, amendments to the amendments even. I do not think we can blame the current Government for all changes that have led to where we are today. Last election I did not vote for the current Government. I did vote though. I was not in New Zealand at the time the MMP bit came up. I really do not want MMP as there are only two parties in New Zealand that count but after the election only one of the two can manage to form a Government after making some agreements behind closed doors. In some respects MMP was not a bad idea as this would presumably give more people a voice in Parliament. However I do not like the Parties idea either with the list people. Any MP may be voted out by the local electorate and get back in on the list. Finally to robbyp, Do you really believe everthing you read in a newspaper? Personally I see a fair bit of opinion scattered about through news media in general. I see some opinions put about on PressF1 as well as to Web browsers recently for example.
