635714 2008-01-31 02:12:00 There are usually only two wires, but it does not matter how many - maximum four. Note which terminals they were on (all wires colour coded - terminals numbered), disconnect, drill a hole in the floor at the new place, poke the wire up and reconnect.

I do believe though, that Telecom would not tell you how easy that job is. "Keep the ignorant masses ignorant." There would be many Telecom employees out of a job otherwise.

How does JJJJJ get on if he has a concrete slab floor :)

Telecom does tell you how to do the job. www.telecom.co.nz

Although many ignorant people think they don't need to be told :p

What a good idea! Who do you suggest - considering I'm talking about exchange faults.

635716 2008-01-31 02:56:00 I do not mean to sound nasty, but why don't you shift it yourself? It is, by far, one of the simpler thing to do in this world.

Give it a go.;)

You don't sound nasty Roscoe. Legitimate question.

I have been living for the past five years with an extension I made myself.A very inferior and untidy job.
And a certain lady has been complaining for five years. So I called in the professionals.
My balance is so poor I can't stand on a chair and put a staple in.

635717 2008-01-31 04:55:00 They subcontract out, so it wasn't telecom. They use companies such as Downers.

Begging your pardon, but it IS Telecom. Just because you contract someone to do a job for you doesn't mean you're not responsible. It's all too easy these day for companies to hide behind out-sourcing. If you are paying Telecom to get a job done, then Telecom is responsible for getting it done. End of story.
As a sideline, it must be a piece of cake to get a subcontract from any company that doesn't check on the job. Do only what you feel like doing and clear off!

Very easy, Paul, you feed it down from the ceiling where it most probably enters the house . A bit more difficult, but not impossible .

Jack, if you live in Auckland, and if it costs to get Telecom (or whoever) to do the job, you are more than welcome to call on me . I'm not falling off chairs yet - ladders yes - chairs no .

Always happy to help if I can .

635719 2008-01-31 05:47:00 Ah well, JJJJJ lives in Rotorua, which explains the whiff of Sulphur on his signature.

(The brimstone is all down to Jack though.)

You make it sound so easy, is it something you've actually done much of? I don't count Sky installing with cables run on the surface inside and out .

Darned right! At least that's the way it was in my days in the world of commerce. I'm sure some more knowledgable person will correct me if I am wrong.
