787463 2009-06-30 11:21:00 Ill pay up to 100 for upgrade(if compatible w/ home sp3) or ill pay 200-250 for home premium or ult. ZapperBoy10647 (11988)
787464 2009-06-30 11:28:00 Nothing to me. XP Pro does everything i need it to do. got Vista Home Premium on my laptop.. so if MS if offering an upgrade from Vista to W7 for $50 than that i can afford. ;) ronyville (10611)
787465 2009-06-30 12:21:00 I wouldn't pay a cent, I wouldn't want it for free.

However if bought as part of a package (a PC or laptop) then I consider the OS to be worth $125.

787466 2009-06-30 12:22:00 They'd have to pay me to take it, and I still probably wouldn't use it 'cause I reckon Linux is free and better. Hard combo to beat. dlane (11847)

Actually the $50 upgrade for USA, is also for XP users. It is no cheaper if you have vista.

787469 2009-06-30 12:59:00 I'm using Win7 RC now and it is fast and pretty (compared to XP anyway). But I'm having a lot of trouble with returning from standby, even worse than Win98 was on my old PC. It hasn't woken up from standby correctly once the last few times I've tried it ... just end up with a black screen ... don't know what the problem is. A lot of people are having standby issues apparently.

So, if they don't fix problems like this in the final version I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it! :)

787470 2009-06-30 14:14:00 $50 if upgrading from XP Home to a home version
$100 if upgrading from XP Pro to a premium / ultimate version
$100 for Retail home version
$200 for retail Ultimate version
Free -> $25 upgrade for Vista users for equivalent version

If Microsoft listened to me, they'd make a killing! Not to mention more people would have legit licenses rather than pirating their overpriced software...

787471 2009-06-30 15:55:00 As a fulltime Linux user, its value runs well into the negative - they'd have to pay me several thousand dollars before I'd even consider using it as my primary system, and the transition would take months - I'm far too entrenched in my existing workflows to change easily. Forgive the OT post, but standby issues are pretty complex. My current W7 would only wake from sleep once per boot on my previous P5QL-EM mobo. Changed mobo to P5Q Pro and sleep mode is now spot on. Don't ask me why!
