Windows stores the activation information in two files in the c:\windows\system32 folder: Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak. If those files are locked, or permissions are incorrect, Windows may not be able to save its activation information.

You might also want to check the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFTNT\CurrentVer sion\Winlogon
(change Activation Required value to zero)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion
(change RegDone value to 1)

Boot into safe mode, click Start→Run and type regedit then check these values.

786905 2009-06-29 11:49:00 Boot into Safe Mode WITHOUT networking, and login as Administrator.

This will give you access no matter if it's activated or not.

Then you could try some 3rd party tools if you want to see what happens.

I can't gain any access through Safe Mode either with administrator account.

Think I will ring MS latter today then try if that fails try speedy's idea.

Will let you know.

786907 2009-06-29 23:52:00 Safe mode and administrator account has always worked for me....

Sounds as if something is seriously screwed

But you have tried a reinstall?
Agent_24 (57)
786908 2009-06-30 03:17:00 I have tried 3 fresh installs, I know strange that safe mode won't work.

Well I rang MS, waste of time they don't offer support for XP pre any service packs.

Think I will try getting CD from Acer.

786909 2009-06-30 04:49:00 I suppose it just comes down to the key, I guess it's just a special custom one for Acer, and will only work with CDs or recovery discs supplied from Acer.

I think I might have had the same problem with an HP key and standard retail CD but I don't remember all the details.

Yeah you probably need a new CD or a new key :(
