counter-intuitively, as efficiency increases so does consumption; we can afford to use more

though i do totally agree with you. there's no excuse for using incandescent bulbs.

636812 2008-03-15 07:41:00 unfortunately we are always going to find new and exciting ways to waste energy, especially when the power bill drops due to higher efficiencyIt may not drop. The increasing cost of keeping the system up at ever widening peak times with 1,000,000 litres of diesel thrown into generators here and there may just make the power bill something we take more seriously, and thus the need to reduce demand will be essentual if we wish to keep our houses lit more than one room at a time...

Lets start with the hallway lights, then the other communal areas, and for freddys sake, that outdoor lighting where no-one get's to enjoy the waste heat produced with those spots or whatever one has at the back door

636813 2008-03-15 07:57:00 Added bonus with installing LED lighting, the lamps will in most cases outlast the person who they serve......

I have build some 10-15Watt blue LED stage lights which are taking over what i once would have done with a 1000Watt "par64" can with a blue filter. With Blue they compete well, here (a87.ac-images.myspacecdn.com) is an example of what my half finished blue (5-7watt) LEDs lamp can doing at arms lenth Vs 1,000Wattt stage light with red filter on the other side.

Also the only thing that will kill the LED lamp is being run over with forklift or something along that lines, i've alreadt tried kicking the thing round the room and when it failed, i realised that the plug had come out of the wall..... Try doing that with a lightbulb in a box!
