638881 2008-02-09 10:17:00 Not sure if this is the right place to ask but basically, all I want to know is that if i buy a Vodafone mobile, can it be changed to Telecom? And vice-versa? Thanks EviLClouD (12981)
638882 2008-02-09 10:18:00 Nope. They use different technologies. pine-o-cleen (2955)
638883 2008-02-09 11:42:00 Nope, Vodafone uses GSM while Telecom uses CDMA. But if you buy a GSM phone, you will be able to use it on Telecom once they change over to GSM which isnt too far off in the future. beeswax34 (63)

What happens when Telecom go to GSM?, do all those people who have CDMA phones have to buy a GSM one, thereby losing the money they paid for it?. Or do Telecom give them the equivalent phone on GSM. Yeah right.

Yes, they all have to switch. And Hell No, Telecom isn't going to give them crap  People will cause a ruckus, the Commerce Commission will investigate and force Telecom to give everyone $5 or so.

No they won't because telecom will continue to use cdma alongside gsm. CDMA will continue to be used for data for many years to come. By the time telecom phase out CDMA the CDMA phoes will be old anyway.

638887 2008-02-10 01:41:00 Anyone know when they are going to switch (just in case the phone dies and we need an upgrade)? Mercury (1316)
638888 2008-02-10 01:46:00 With Telecon involved - nobody knows, and anything Telescam say will be wrong, deliberately or otherwise. R2x1 (4628)

Really? Then why did people going to OZ under roaming have to get a Worldmate phone to keep roaming under Telstra's new GSM network? I would have thought that GSM and CDMA would have co-existed there as well.

638890 2008-02-10 01:59:00 Telecom and Australians? You don't seriously want to use that as an example do you? You will scare the children. R2x1 (4628)
