| 637877 | 2008-02-06 06:44:00 | Did anybody watch this on TV2 last night? What did you think of it? Have you read the book & listened to the Musical Double LP? My opinion, only, you understand !! The TV Guide gave it only two stars & a not very good write up. Speilbergs effects were very good, as usual. But the acting... Oh boy. The star got to show his entire range of acting skills. All five wooden expressions. Why does Hollywood stuff up a good story?. I kept looking for similarities to the book & saw very little. Awful production. Typical hysterics & very little clear dialogue. Hollywood tends to Overstate, the UK tends to Understate events. Is it all that Botox & face lifting that causes such wooden acting? There are a lot of this generation of actors like it. Rant over. PJ:yuck: |

Also listened to the 2-disc album (late seventies, was it), and that was good too. Richard Burton has a superb voice. But the music soon palls. It's ok for a few hearings, and then that's it. Don't want to hear it again for a few years. As for the film, stick with the 1953 version, I reckon. It was a classic SF film in its day, but dated looking now, I would think. |

I agree with all of the above. I did play Side 1 almost smooth tho. I thought that was the best side. PJ |

| 637880 | 2008-02-06 07:38:00 | Last night was my first encounter with W of the W, so I was quite intrigued. Watched it with my 13 year old son, we thought some of the tension was well built. Special effects were good. We had some great dialogue over what choices we would make in the situation. - Stay away from populated areas and ferries. - Don't drive the only working car in the country through masses of walking people with sore feet and big baseball bats. - Get food, water and a BFG and wait it out in my favourite hut in the Ureweras (where me and the terrorists can form a resistance movement). - I guess the rule of law will have fallen, and the invaders will have used Sue Bradford for fertiliser, so smack the kids if they run off when I told them not to. Anyway, I downloaded the original 1938 Orson Wells adaptation today, that when originally played on the wireless caused some consternation . Fun to listen to, very well done for it's time. Overall, I feel a lot better prepared for a Martian invasion, even if the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one. |

Actually I didn't think it was too far off it . More dramatics of course and the stuff with the kids . But the virus and all that at the end . . . . same thing . Hollywood can never leave an original story intact . |

| 637883 | 2008-02-06 09:16:00 | Forever Autumn and Thunderchild are classic songs . I watched the remake of Rollerball instead - and that has to be close to the worst film ever . It is so bad, I recommend watching it to see what a real mess someone can make of what could have been a good film . As for War of the Worlds - I had been warned about that one fortunately . |

| 637884 | 2008-02-06 09:36:00 | Funny someone mentioned War of the Worlds. Just finished watching Jeff Waynes version on DVD on my wide screen TV. Brilliant. Had the sound going through my 130 watt RMS Yamaha stereo. :) |

| 637886 | 2008-02-06 12:55:00 | I saw the movie on the big screen when it came out. Pretty disappointing, but it was a must-see given the original story and the original soundtrack Twelvevolts - I haven't seen Rollerball 2, but the first was just simply the best! |
