788574 2009-07-03 08:37:00 Hi all,

So I've taken an old PC and chucked XP back on it. Previously running Ubuntu 7.10 without issues.

I've installed the chipset drivers and everything, problem is regardless of which version (I even got an old 94.X version) of the nVidia drivers I use, be it latest, Beta, a month or two old, or super-old, the drivers install happily but when I reboot the PC following the installation it logs in, then hangs after about 4-5 seconds.
Reboot into safe mode, remove the driver, and its all good as gold again (But without decent video drivers).

Any ideas why? It's worked previously with XP just fine ...?

Cheers

Chill.

788577 2009-07-03 09:21:00 It *was* dual-booting for a bit, up until about 6 months ago, and it had no worries ... Im kinda stumped :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)
788578 2009-07-03 09:41:00 Sure you got that model correct ?? GA-KVM800M or is it GA-K8VM800M This board (www.gigabyte.com.tw) If it is that board, did you install the onboard Graphics as well ?? wainuitech (129)
788579 2009-07-03 10:29:00 Sorry, Typo, yes its the K8VM800M

The OnBoard VGA was disabled in the BIOS, windows didnt know it was there until just now I pulled out the AGP Card, enabled it in the BIOS, installed the OnBoard VGA Drivers and yeah *that* works just fine... :(

788581 2009-07-03 11:37:00 It *used* to work in both XP, as well as Ubuntu. It was my old gaming rig...

WinXP Pro, SP3 (slipstreamed).

788582 2009-07-03 21:33:00 So maybe the card itself now has a problem........ pctek (84)
788583 2009-07-03 22:32:00 Reckon its possibly just developed a fault? I haven't booted XP on that for ~6 months but it was fine in Ubuntu. The card works fine until I install any official nVidia drivers :-/

Should try and find the other one that I bought at the same time, identical make / model...
