788266 2009-07-02 23:01:00 Hi there, I hope someone in here can help me with this little humdinger .

I regularly backup my important data, and in the past I used Genie Backup Manager to do the job and, although I never had to put it through its paces in restoring the data, I must say I have never had any problems with the program . But then the licence expired and I did not want to cough out the renewal fees .

Enters Press F1!

In here I read some good reviews of Syncback, and the fact that there is a free version made it all the more attractive, hence I downloaded the program and installed it .

I have 2 issues though and I was hoping the more experienced users of this piece of software could shed some light .

1: It needs the DVD-RW to be formatted in UDF; no problem there as I have InCd . On the contrary . Syncback does not recognise DVD formatted with InCd and therefore I had to look for an alternative . Syncback know of this problem and they suggest an alternative - Sonic DLA . It's good, it's free, it works with Syncback, but I need to uninstall my very expensive Nero 6 in order to install it and then I would lose the ability to author cd's and home videos . . .
Hence the question: Is there anything else out there that would format DVD's to UDF that would work with Syncback and live happily in the same system as Nero?

2: Syncback took the best part of 3 hours to backup my pictures and home videos, admittedly it is 5 gigs of stuff, but I never had this from Genie which would take roughly 20 mins .

Now, I have not played around with the settings . So, maybe there is a way to shave some time off the backup process by customise the settings?

I would appreciate any help you could offer .

Regards, Sanco

788267 2009-07-02 23:34:00 You may be able to just uninstall InCD, leaving Nero intact.

The first backup may have been a full backup. Next time you synchronise it should only backup the changes you have made.

788268 2009-07-03 00:36:00 Maybe search for specific syncback plugins, such as this backup plugin (www.backup4all.com). Also consider the free DriveImage XML (www.runtime.org)(which also has plugins) for backups... kahawai chaser (3545)
788269 2009-07-03 02:53:00 Thank you for your input Rob99, but I have tried that as my first option and the DLA asked me to completely uninstall nero - in fact it did it all by itself... You might be right though that the first backup may take a little longer; I shall see this in future backups.

Kahawai chaser, I appreciate your suggestion. I have used drive image in the past however, and wasn't too impressed with the performance, therefore I'd like to give syncback a good go before I surrender...

All I'd really need is an alternative way to format dvd's from incd and DLA.

Cheers

788270 2009-07-03 03:29:00 You shouldn't need to. Syncback does it for you.

Insert a blank unformatted cd. You let syncback do it for you.

788271 2009-07-03 07:32:00 The free version of the program has that facility? Wow. Where do I find it? Sanco (683)
788272 2009-07-04 21:07:00 Hummm, I see that obviously there are no alternatives to DLA, and I have to make a decision to either ditch syncback and try an alternative or live withouth a packet writing software in my pc.
Thanks for your help.

788273 2009-07-04 23:51:00 Forgot about this thread, sorry!

What should happen is that it should utilise windows' burning capibilities to do it.

788274 2009-07-05 00:14:00 It's all good Blam, what I meant was that obviously I am either the only one having this type of issues with syncback free edition, or else there are not alternatives to InCd from nero or Roxio DLA apps to format dvds .

So, you are telling me that windows (XP) has a native formatting tool? Where would I find this?

Cheers

788275 2009-07-05 01:01:00 No need to find it. As long as you have the IMAPI update installed, which you should, whenever you pop in a blank CD you just hit "Burn to disc" in explorer and you're away!
