| 788135 | 2009-07-02 05:49:00 | Hi My apologies in advance if this has already been discussed--though I cannot find anything in a search of F1- ( I have been out of action for some time ) :eek: What is the value of my present XP Pro 32 bit OS,as against installing 64 bit to create a further challenge brainwise? | 788136 | 2009-07-02 05:53:00 | Main diff 64 bit can use a LOT more ram than 32 bit. 32 bit programs will still work (if it doesnt install drivers that is). Otherwise the driver will also HAVE to be 64 bit, to work in 64 bit windows. Only thing with 64 bit, make sure whatever devices you've got have 64 bit drivers (mobo/sound/lan/printer drivers MUST support / have 64 bit drivers). 32 bit drivers wont work Here's the diff between vista 32 and 64 bit (support.microsoft.com). The mobo and CPU MUST support 64 bit. Or 64 bit wont install |

| 788138 | 2009-07-02 06:26:00 | This site has a lot of 64 bit programs (http://www.start64.com/) Altho, most of them arent free. But some small programs are. There's nothing wrong with running 32 bit programs, but you wont get the benefits of 64 bit, running 32 programs. The 32 bit limtations (for whatever 32 bit program) will apply. I'm not too worried about 32 bit programs, just the drivers (which so far is fine). Everything I've got has 64 bit drivers (However. the bluetooth adapter, I was using is MEANT to be 64 bit compatible, the drivers are, however the program that came on CD isnt). It cant find the adapter, after I've installed the drivers and the program. |

| 788139 | 2009-07-02 06:27:00 | I recommend 64bit Vista. It may run slightly slower yes, but it has much wider and better driver support. 64bit offers more RAM, and for programs written specifically with a 64bit CPU and OS in mind, will run a bit faster. Blam |

| 788140 | 2009-07-02 07:41:00 | Both 32bit and 64bit have their own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of 64bit is that it supports so much more RAM (like thousands of terrabytes), but the problems are lack of driver support, and that in some cases 64bit can operate slower on small programs because it has to transfer twice as much data to tell the CPU the address, but most programs work around this, and I don't think it affects x86-64 as much as PPC. |

| 788143 | 2009-07-02 08:02:00 | Itunes works fine with Vista 64 bit, but NOT XP Pro 64 bit (unless you hack/tweak the setup file). Apple just decided to leave XP Pro 64 bit out of it (so you cant use it in x64). There is a 64 bit version of Itunes (but I think the drivers are 64 bit / when you rip / burn, the program itself isnt 64 bit). Yup, there are no drivers for the Leadtek deluxe tuner, but there are drivers for the Expert tuner. |

| 788144 | 2009-07-02 08:59:00 | I've had x64 Vista Ultimate for a few days now. To be honest I can't feel much of a difference in everyday tasks. Well maybe a tad faster, but nothing to wow about. On benchmark it's more noticeable but in real life....very slightly. x64 games like Crysis and STALKER doesn't really show much difference then their x86 counterparts. There is slight improvement though, but I think it may be because now my PC can recognise all 4GB of RAM rather than only 3.25GB when I still ran x86 Vista. |
