Therefore if you wish to become part of New Zealand society, -- Learn the language! How true. I'm Asian myself and I find it extremely rude and annoying when a group of Asians speak so loudly in Asian in public. Reminded me of a time when I was serving a group of rambunctious and noisy Koreans at the checkout. They were screaming in Korean across the store. Had to tell them to shut the **** up, in the nicest way (because I had to be nice, mind you). Then one of them had the gut to complain to my supervisor, telling her I was rude for telling a customer to be quiet. I wish I had cut their tongues right there and then. |

| 638613 | 2008-02-13 09:30:00 | "In God we trust "is our national Motto. This is not some Christian, rightwing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then it is recommended that you consider another part of the world as your new home, Because God is part of our culture. Well I was born here and you can stick your christian god up your fundament. Oh, and look up "secularism"... |

| 638614 | 2008-02-13 09:39:00 | Do you think to yourself, "Gee, we aren't soft enough on criminals! We have to be softer so they might stop committing crimes!"? No, as stated in a previous thread I'm in favour of longer sentences, and of less easy parole. But that's because I think a criminal should be punished for a crime. That's not the same thing as thinking creating a harsh prison environment will lower crime. The two are not the same thing. By all means make criminals do the time and do not, as you point out, punish the victims of crime. But don't make the mistake of thinking turning our prisons into some kind of Mad-Max hell hole will lower crime, because it just doesn't work that way. |

| 638616 | 2008-02-13 09:41:00 | I think that about Singapore and Brunei all the time. Singapore and Brunei are wealthy and have strong social/cultural control. It isn't prison life that deters criminals there. |

If some pos came into your house and cut up your family would you be happy?, would you be thinking about the attackers up bringing?, Offering yourself as a mentor? **** no. Yet when it happens to others within our society its understandable as LIFE IS HARD, TV gives false impressions and music is evil. That makes me sick. I ****in spit on you weak ****s. **** you. |

| 638618 | 2008-02-13 09:51:00 | You are misreading my comments. Yes there ARE people who would be better off locked up with the key chucked as far away as possible. And others who deserve time out to reflect. But the generalizations around here are appalling. The general tone is that ALL people who go through the Courts are criminals of the worst kind and will almost certainly reoffend etc so treat them like scum. |

| 638620 | 2008-02-13 09:56:00 | oh, sorry, I didn't realize all those people going to court weren't supposed to be there. Wait, I have spent a few days in court, Everyone up there was a repeat offender, Hell, Most were treating it as a social event, and wearing their feats like a badge. all had harmed society in numerous ways, Most if not all went straight out to do it again. Hell, One POS was trying to brag to me about kidnapping, and when I told him to **** off he wanted a knife fight. Makes me sick. |

| 638621 | 2008-02-13 10:16:00 | But the generalizations around here are appalling. The general tone is that ALL people who go through the Courts are criminals of the worst kind and will almost certainly reoffend etc so treat them like scum. How do you think they got there in the first place? Committing a crime, of course. And I agree with Metla. If we want NZ to stay being a peaceful green country, then we need to either get rid of the troublemakers and/or scare them into being good citizens. You really have to imagine what it would be like if some scoundrel killed or in any way harm you or someone you care about. Put yourself in the victims' shoes. Or do you really have to have such crimes done unto you or your family/friends to open your eyes? One of the main reasons immigrants come here is because of the prospect of peace and cultural tolerance. In most cases, I find that true. But most crimes that have been done unto my family happened in NZ, quite recently. My father's car got stolen, TWICE, and our house broken into. No such things ever happened to us in Indonesia, where crime rates are certainly higher. The worst crime I could think of back there was mongrels climbing our fence and stealing mangoes from our mango tree. And others who deserve time out to reflect. What the hell are they going to reflect on if they have a large TV to look forward to, games to play and free meals to eat? Hardly any of them are compensating society for the damages they've done. |
