637703 2008-02-11 09:10:00 You won't get fine summer weather like this under National, it will be strictly rationed to round-table trough-suckers only.
Not only will the winters be fiercer and longer, you will all get more punctures too. On days when the weather is rotten.

637704 2008-02-11 10:03:00 Haha Cicero, you are so funny, weirdly we have something in common that I would have never suspected in a million years.

For all of my younger life one of the things I loved most of all was my Hornby Dublo (sp, its been a long time, I left it in Zambia) English Electric 'Deltic' Locomotive and I love the sound of that Commer Truck , we used to hear them all the time from the PWD (Public Works Dept), how strange to think that we have something in common, besides being human beings that is.

I hope that wasn't your mother trying(rather vainly) to get you back to Zambia.
Tell her to buy tickets like the rest of us in future.

637707 2008-02-11 19:43:00 National in power --> Tax cuts for the rich - reduction in benefits for the poor - reduce funding for Health Care etc - work for the dole - jobs for the boys/Old Boys from elite schools they all went to - reconnections back to the Military/Industrial complex in America - other horrors I can't recall at the moment.

Nationalism - the last refuge of a scoundrel, with Mr Lego Man, John Key, to lead them.

Well, charging me 40c in the dollars in too much in my view, lets face it, all Labour has done with Health Care is throw money at it and it doesnt work still.

I got no problems with people on the dole working for their money, I do.

Labour give jobs to the stupid, at least with Labour the old boys have some education and nous.

I think everyones over the US paranoia

How about everytime Labour leave government, interest rates are in double figure yet the took control when in single figures.

How about the red tape Labour loves and all the expense that cost NZ businesses?, Building for one has gone from 30 pages to 130 pages in compliance.

How about all the arrogant promises and blatant lying from Helen Clark?

What about the shifty last night law reforms? Shall I go on?

637708 2008-02-12 03:23:00 For a start:

Work for the dole is bad because people work for less than the minimum wage taking jobs from people who would do the said work as their job and the employers actively exploit this even cheaper source of labour.

It has been tried before and it doesn't solve any problems, it is as if the government is competing in the labour market place and causing distortions which is against the current economic thinking they are trying to follow and the very thing they are trying to avoid, blah, blah, blah.

God I get sick of this nonsense!!!!!

637709 2008-02-12 04:00:00 Who said they had to do public jobs. You are thinking too narrow. Beach cleaning, scrub clearing, voluntary jobs etc.

Did you know it costs this country 1 billion dollars each year just to 'dole' out the benefits?.

I say gets them to work, why would beneficiary work when they get the money for nothing. Where is the drive to get them working again....

Why are you sick of this nonsense zqwerty?, are you happy that we have people and their off spring making a career off living off your taxes?.

I myself, have an old friend who hasnt worked for over 10 yrs, he lives of the sickness benefit because of his back, but really, there is no reason he couldnt do part time work in an office, teaching etc. Why hasnt the government done something about these people, truth be known, i know he is wheeling and dealing but thats not my place to reprimand him.

I am sick of the green do gooders that are so soft they just feel sorry for these poor poor people, its not there fault.
We need a government with some damn backbone to tackle this sort of thing and organised crime, another thing that Labour has ignored for 3 terms!!

637710 2008-02-12 04:08:00 The police are in the process of establishing an Organised Crime division as we speak. They're unbundling it from what is at the moment a cooperation between several agencies. It's not that they haven't done anything, it's just that these things tend to take time. And until now it hasn't really been the biggest issue in NZ. Thebananamonkey (7741)
637711 2008-02-12 07:53:00 SolMiester have you not heard of P.E.P. Schemes, they were tried and abandoned in the 1980's, they were exactly what you are talking about and ending costing significantly more (transport costs for workers on buses a major upfront cost) than just having people sit at home on the dole.

These costs were extensively discussed in the media at the time, where were you? This is a really old misconception, the dole is the cheapest thing the government can do to keep the citizens quiet and not starving in the street if they can't find a job, and there are plenty of people for one reason or another (chronic illness, intellectual/physical disabilities, too stupid) who cannot find suitable employment as well as those that are just lazy bludgers.

Do you want one group of people to dig holes whilst another group fills them in? There were some wonderful jokes along these lines back in the 80's one in particular which I may try to find as it was so pointed and wicked and punctured the pretensions of the deluded right wing at the time.

The Politicians digging themselves a huge hole which they were now trapped in, and then piling the resulting debris into the middle of the hole they were trapped into a sand tower, standing on the top of it and proclaiming that they could see some light and it would all be alright in the end.

637712 2008-02-12 18:02:00 The thing with the dole is (and I hate dole bludgers) is that for a single person it is no where near enough to live on, so they have to undertake "other activities" such as SolMesieter's friend.

The answer is to make them move to where there are jobs eg fruit picking and give them a time limit to get a job or actively manage them to get a job or it will be cut off.
