| 637683 | 2008-02-08 04:57:00 | The Government collects taxes and spends the said money on health, roads, dole, DPB and etcetera. Now could you keep your TAX money and contract for a road in your area? What you say is true. They take an arbitrary amount off us,the spend our money on the things you have mentioned, remembering it's the civil servants who do the carrying out of said plans, the we are supposed to be grateful.? And I am told the education system fails many, certainly heath system fails all those on waiting list. You mays say,pay more tax and you will get better services, the fact is the waste in these departments is legion, and these parliamentarians do what? It's a fact that private hospitals would do a lot of work if government were to employ them, what do they do,nothing. |

I'm glad you have enough spare money so that when you get sick you won't have to rely on a tax funded health system sadly depleted by the policies you and your National mates hope to foist onto the ordinary people of NZ in the guise of what ever trickery you can pull out of your "hats" (think of another word here beginning with a) to nurse you back to health again Cicero. |

| 637685 | 2008-02-08 09:03:00 | It would be nice if governments did something for New Zealand and New Zealanders - rather it is usually what they do to New Zealand and New Zealanders - very few leave New Zealanders better off and also leave New Zealand a better place to live. | KenESmith (6287) | ||

Can we assume Zqwert, that the state does all things better than the individual? |

| 637687 | 2008-02-08 09:34:00 | Well how well do you pave roads? How well do you manage the health system? And what do you do for education? I'd say the state does a lot more than the individual. Except in your case, obviously you do everything better than this devil worshipping female led bleeding heart cissy government. Otherwise you wouldn't be posting here would you? What I want to know is how a government tells us there's a surplus when the health system needs so much help. $11b would go a fair way to that. Tax cuts ARE just bribing us with our own money. Just spend the money, and make sure it's on something good. Buy telecom back, and do something good with it, because they certainly aren't. |

| 637688 | 2008-02-08 09:41:00 | Well Cicero, it doesn't seem as if imposing corporate type organizational structures on Telecom, Electricity Suppliers or the Health System has gone very well, and that's putting it mildly, my electricity bill has quadrupled in the last 15 years, and the implementation of broad band not to mention texting (SMS) charges are scandalous, we have already covered the disaster that the Health Services have become due to Privatization. The (benevolent/malevolent????????) Invisible Hand of the Market is a myth, we have all been conned by Great White Shark businessmen. |

I can see your point Z,and am coming round to your thinking, just a pity we both missed out on the pleasure of living under Stalin. |
