This means that other people can be in the room doing other things and you turn the normal speaker sound off and the person with the headphones can still keep listening, also for the hard of hearing the headphones can be turned up really loud but it will not disturb others.

Perhaps I can clear up a point here. Philips make two versions of this device. One works using radio (I am avoiding the term wireless as this can have more than one meaning).
This is the one referred to above - but mine is a cheaper version which uses the same method that our remotes use. In other words I cannot walk around the house and retain the sound. I must be in the room in direct line of sight. In fact just trying to read a newspaper at the same time stops the signal. It suits me and in fact my wife who likes TV much more than I do also uses the things so that the main sound is turned off and I can sit in the room and read.

Guess - ;)

And how can a Radio System help? - we are talking Television here . (Which pretty much rules out anything high quality in the way of content . ) ;) ;)

I like the concept of the infra-red version, just holding up the newspaper blocks the picture and blanks the sound . Perfect .

And they only claimed the pen was mightier than the sword !

637899 2008-02-08 03:38:00 Yes, we have a version of both types, infra-red and radio link. The infra-red are a bit too directional and shorter range, although our model is a very early one, Philips SBC HC105, we have three sets of them. zqwerty (97)
637900 2008-02-13 17:50:00 With all the remakes going on. I had high hopes for this movie when i heard about it. I was annoyed Mr Cruise was the main character, but what can you do?

The effects were outstanding I thought, I loved the noise it makes when it first pops out of the ground, but that was all. After the initial attack the movie was about as exciting as a carboard box.
