638902 2008-02-09 20:26:00 Running one of each on the dek. Comments similar to Wainuitech's. Bob_doe_nz would find that the compatibility process might resolve those old games problems. I use a couple of elderly (Windows 98 originally) wood design programmes and an ancient database in Works 4.5 quite happily on the Vista machine. Scouse (83)
638903 2008-02-09 20:33:00 I find Vista has never given me a moment's bother. Possibly aided by not having it. ;) R2x1 (4628)
638904 2008-02-09 20:37:00 Hi R2x1 - I'm much the same when my neighbour complains of the cost of maintaining his BMW. Scouse (83)
638905 2008-02-09 20:41:00 Ah - the "feel good feature" with BMW's and Vista

If you had a neighbour with a V12 Jag, you could feel even better ;)

638906 2008-02-09 21:39:00 vista can kiss the fattest part of my ass! (edited quote from Peter Griffin) Just formated my drive and reinstalled XP, cause i hate it. XP has so much more customisability (after editing uxtheme.dll) and with a few add on programs you can get a better GUI than Vista too! Vista caused me (maybe cuase i download lots of stuff) nothing but troubles. Maybe when SP1 or 2 comes out. Otherwise go XP SP3 beta!!! AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116)
638907 2008-02-09 22:31:00 Happily using Vista here. Have ever since it launched a year ago and considered it better than XP back then (still do). First few weeks while in transition I toyed with vLite till I got an install I was happy with, will probably go through the process again for a fresh install with Vista SP1 pretty much out now. sal (67)
638908 2008-02-09 22:39:00 I use Vista security - something which should have been done ages ago, is finally up to a reasonable standard. That is, as long as you don't turn off UAC!!!!

Why am I still taking off masses of spyware from Vista PCs then? These are as is, UAC on, Windows (Useless) Defender on.

It's the operator, rather than the machine. UAC is only useful when people don't blindly click "Allow".

638910 2008-02-09 23:07:00 Vista gets bugs, XP gets bugs - no difference - defender ?? Defends against What - its' self maybe:p

One of the problems Techs see all the time is exactly what Somebody mentioned - "oh I clicked this and that but didn't read what it said" - well durhhhh.

Bit like the phone call every thech gets sometimes - " My computer is doing (------- Fill in the blanks) and comes up with an error message - whats the problem - Answer - Whats the error message say - Reply Don't know only clicked OK - Thoughts / Answer There are thousands of error messages so need to know what it says before a fix can be applied.

Mind readers we are not

Working on an IT help desk, you have no idea how often I hear this... Though luckily the software and systems I deal with are all the same procedural and technically so these days any error message and symptoms caused by the error I know the cause of etc...

Now that I am not gaming on my PC as often as I used to (got a PS3) I am considering installing Vista...
