Well if you have XP there is no native DVD burning in there and the original poster was trying to format DVD-RW and the title says DVD formatting software. |

That is correct Sweep. What I am looking for is a simple dvd formatting tool that can format to UDF and can live happily in the same HD as nero 6. One would think there will be a wad of these out there, wouldn't one, but it does not seem to be the case.
I guess I could use syncback to backup on other media though, as I read that DVD RW are not the best? |

Well I must admit that I would not trust my data to DVD -RW but do use DVD -R media. |
