| 638702 | 2008-02-18 09:56:00 | Metla, You and I see this from different sides of the coin. You have obviously lived in an area with a gang problem, I haven't. But... 6 months ago a good friend of ours was falsely charged with rape. Why we believe it was false is a long story that I won't go into here. But believe me the woman's story has holes in it big enough to drive a truck through. What I have seen is a young man suffering major depression and for a while there on the verge of suicide due to his life being totally trashed through this. I am one of the few people he trusts and I support him totally. The last 6 months have been hell for everyone involved and it still months to the Court case. What really pushes my buttons are generalizations, biased media reports and people jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts. So yes, you see guys getting away with things laughing, I've seen things like that as well but have also seen the opposite very close to home. |

But I really cannot take the chance of having a genuine criminal having all the luxuries he should not have while in incarceration. My point is: if the criminal doesn't give a toss about his victim's feelings as he steals, assault, vandalise, rape or murder his victim, why should we give a toss about THEIR feelings when they're in a hell-jail? |

Interesting characterisation of anybody who doesn't think "getting tough on criminals" is the answer. The thing which predisposes the overwhelming majority of criminals to crime is poverty. Poverty marginalises people - it puts them at the edge of society that the "getting tough on crime" crowd thinks is so bloody marvelous. Capitalism simply doesn't favour everybody. "Getting tough on crime" won't stop crime. Just like putting more ambulances on the street won't lower the road toll. But of course, addressing inequalities in our society is too hard - isn't it? It's much easier to get vengeance and spend money on getting mean on the criminals that rose out of the less savoury aspects of our "beautiful" society. |

| 638705 | 2008-02-18 20:40:00 | right, Your pointing a finger at me. ***. The point, And this is just for you as your obviously a bit special, Is that this group are so confident in the fact that their behaviour is tolerated that they can flaunt themselves for all the world to see. All of them will have criminal records, all of them will be known very well known by the police, and all of em will continue to do as they damn well please in the current climate. These are the people that bash, steal, thieve, deface, and respect each other for doing so, These are the people who some would say have the cultural right to vandalise your property, These are the people some think need to be approached in a sensitive manner, Listened to, To hug and cuddle. These are the people who ruin communities. These are the people who show how much they spit on you that they can post that video. I done none of those things by posting it as an example of the scum we are breeding. But hey, Hide it from yourself and shove moronic comments at me instead. CHAMPION. To your penchant for poetry... OH, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet, Till Earth and Sky stand presently at Gods great Judgement Seat; But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth, When two strong men stand face to face, tho they come from the ends of the earth! The point is,you will never convince the do gooder. These crim types of whom you speak, are forever lost due to damage to Psyche and subconscious. A test for all, just try changing your own nature. |

| 638706 | 2008-02-18 20:44:00 | Then there is the other side of the coin. "The Serial Tenant From Hell." A couple of years back an out of town friend had major problems with a tenant. Her behaviour was also impacting on our tenants in the same block. Our friend somehow managed to convince me and a mutual mate to, reluctantly, take her to the Tenancy Tribunal for an emergency evicition. For both of us it was a first there and the tenant taught us a lot! Brilliant actress with an amazing story of lies (and no, the landlord didn't send round a mate with a gun to get the rent and yes, the receipt was forged). It got her a stay till after Christmas by which time the landlord was out of pocket by 5 grand. Her method is: - Direct reference checks to her friend's mobile - Front up with one week's rent (sometimes the cheque bounces, other times it doesn't) - Promise the bond "next week" - Harass the landlord into doing something wrong (frustrated replies to her text messages are great) - Call the police every time the landlord goes round (that was fun, I got the whole lot of one legal property inspection from the time the locksmith opened the door till the time the police showed up on video - including where she thumped the camera) - Wait till it goes to Tenancy Services before either abandoning the property or the balliffs kick her out - Trash the place on leaving, steal anything not nailed down and leave it full of rubbish I know of 7 times she has done it in the last couple of years or so. 2 friends (1 or them a VERY experienced landlord who got taken in! He found out about another), 2 prior to our experience (our mate the landlord returned to Auckland and went for a drive to previous properties), and two more now the Tenancy Tribunal decisions are on-line. There will be a lot of others that we don't know about. My estimate is that she causes around $2,000 loss and damage per month - or $24,000 a year to landlords. Minimum. - We also discovered that she had been convicted of 30 counts of fraud with a document and was facing charges 2 years ago of failing to do PD for this. What does Tenancy Services do? Record judgement against her and leave it to the landlords to try to recover the money. (Yeah... right!) When I pointed out to the adjudicator on the day we finally got her evicted that she had lied on oath at the first hearing his reply was "I don't think we need to worry the District Court about a small matter like this" Tenancy Tribunal decisions are now on-line which will make it harder for her. But she'll still find suckers who don't check. Or she'll change her name. There are around 90,000 landlords in Auckland, many with only one or two rentals with massive mortgages, little knowledge and on tight cashflows. Things like this can cause massive financial hardship to them - and mortgagee sales. |

| 638708 | 2008-02-19 00:27:00 | But it will save more lives. And last time I checked it's still a good thing. Absolutely, the more ambulances on call the faster they can get to victims and as studies have shown time and time over, the faster treatment is received especially for massive internal injuries, the more the chances of survival. Hence, lower road toll. It IS that simple. |

| 638709 | 2008-02-19 03:01:00 | There's this article in today's Herald: Girl commits suicide as she feels despondent and is overwhelmingly angered by NZ justice system allowing her rapist to be let on bail, when he raped 3 other women. So, what we have is a known rapist. Woop-dee-do, he was let out on bail, and he raped 3 other women. I seriously cannot see the logic in that. You have a proven criminal, yet you let him to roam free, even if it's just for a few days. |

Having people posting threats or being supportive of physical violence towards public figures is a big no goer. I should point out that users are not anonymous and if warranted, can be traced.
