788257 2009-07-02 22:47:00 Hi,

I accidentally unplugged my external HDD (via USB). I don't think it was writing at the time, but now when I try to open some folders, it comes up with an error - folder not accessible. Hovering over the folder itself shows that the folder is empty. Other folders are fine. There's a lot of stuff on the HDD (mostly video files, MP3s, etc), so I haven't been able to check to see exactly what is busted and what isn't.

I know that the prevailing wisdom says the files haven't necessarily been removed, just the "index" is damaged so it can't find the files. Is there a cheap/easy way to fix things? Using WinXP...

Cheers

Replace X with your external HDD drive letter

788260 2009-07-03 06:46:00 Solved the problem. CHKDSK showed no problems, and while I was waiting for PC Inspector to download (unbelievably slow download speeds today, by the way) I googled a few different terms. One page suggested that it might be a problem with the Access Control List. I checked the permissions, and sure enough they had been changed, so I reset them and all is well with the world (well, the HDD anyway).

Thanks guys.
