640461 2008-02-15 00:00:00 I've bought most of the components for my new PC. I've mounted the motherboard onto the case (took me 45 mins!) and installed the CPU, hard drive, RAM and graphics card so far. At the moment, it's a maze (and mess) of cables and I don't have the slightest clue where the front audio and USB port cables go.

I just need a professional technician to clear the mess and make sure everything is correctly plugged in correctly, etc. So does anyone know any good, honest and reliable techies that could come to my house and help me out without burning a hole in my wallet? Most of the computer stores charge $60+/hour. I'm guessing it shouldn't take more than 2 hours so I'm looking for someone who charges $30-$50/hour.

640462 2008-02-15 00:07:00 I could do that in 15 mins, if you were in Nelson.

You'd be struggling to find a 'real' PC tech to do a call out for under $50 an hour.

See if any Chch PF1 members wanna bit of cash. :p

640463 2008-02-15 00:31:00 15 minutes? Madness! D:

Hmm yeah there's about 15 to 20 cables that need to be plugged in. I just don't want to be the one to press the power button for the first time in case it goes *boom*.

640464 2008-02-15 00:35:00 If you wanna post a few pics of the inside of your PC, and the model number of the motherboard, we could give you a few pointers. wratterus (105)
640465 2008-02-15 01:14:00 The specs are in my sig. I'll try to get hold of a digicam. jason_f90 (3544)

What about any other part of the country - Faster or slower
(sorry Mate couldn't resist that)

15 - 20 minutes to put a PC together is about right - then Several hours with installing software ;)

Seriously though - Most of the cables/plugs will only go in one way or place, esp from the power Supply, as they have either chamfered / Square edges on the P4 Power plug, the Main Power plug will only fit one way, and the molex & SATA plugs are chamfered or have a "step" so they will once again only fit one way.

The leads from the front of the case will all be labled, you need to carefully look through the manual that came with the board, and then SLOWLY ( if unsure) match each lead to its location on the board.

Mate, it's far quicker here. Common knowledge!!

Hardly likely. Speeds are reasonably constant right across the board, although they can be affected by the current temperature, eg -10 to 5 deg, about 1 hour. 5 to 15 deg, about 30mins. 15 to 30 deg, 15-20 mins. 30 to 50 deg, not at all. I go swimming when it gets that hot. :p
