639511 2008-02-11 12:30:00 "To date, only New Zealand and Belgium have banned their athletes from giving political opinions while competing at the Games."

Unbelievable considering how "free" and "democratic" we and other people think this country is.

"...the United States, Canada, Finland, and Australia – have pledged that their athletes would be free to speak about any issue concerning China."

So pleasant to see such lack of bias.

"NZOC communications manager Ashley Abbott said the report was misleading and that a clause in an agreement covering athletes was a standard one for all previous Olympic Games." www.nzherald.co.nz

National aren't off the hook just because their games weren't in China :)

The mere suggestion is enough, they thought it all right.

639518 2008-02-11 21:50:00 How about instead of simple labour bashing and vague "I like national" "don't vote labour". You actually give us a reason to vote National. Tell us all about their policies, and how they're going to make NZ a better place when they get in. Can you find a policy? Or is this why you're telling us NOT to vote for labour? Because you can't find a reason TO vote for national? Thebananamonkey (7741)
639519 2008-02-12 00:56:00 Or perhaps because its being held in such a place, its so they concentrate on the sporting events and don't end up disintegrating into a riot. pctek (84)

I will vote this year as I compare policies.

At this time I have not heard very much from National.

I admit that I do not like some of what Labour has done while in office.
More:-
Lack of Justice in so far as the Privy Council is no longer available.
No Airforce.
No Tax cuts even while there appears to be a rather large surplus over spending. Either the Govt does the tax cut or uses the surplus on spending for Education, Health and Police.

But I will say that the Labour coalition has delivered on several promises.

Last election I voted NZFirst as I wanted Win Peters to get back. I also wanted Mark Burton to get out.

Every person of voting age should vote this year.

The issue I have is that we have an MMP system and while I think that should continue we also have Nandor Tancos, Sue Bradford, Keith Locke and etc.

I think we still have too many Politicians and too many public servants for a country of 4,000,000 people.

Let us not forget we also have local elections for Council etc as well.
