789160 2009-07-05 06:22:00 Hey!

I've installed Windows XP Pro on a machine with a Core 2 Quad q9550 processor .

When it was first installed I looked in System information (right click My Computer -> Properties) and the processor showed up as "Intel Pentium III Xeon" . I researched this and found a fix that microsoft has ( . microsoft . com/kb/953955" target="_blank">support . microsoft . com) installed it and now it shows up as "x86 Family 6 Model 23" .

Does this seem right? Everest Ultimate (software that shows hardware on your pc) shows the processor as it should .

---

I cannot seem to find any drivers for the processor on the Intel sites, only some software that scans your processor .

The processor driver in device manager is from 1/4/2004, thats from before that processor existed?!

Thanks for any help,

Gregor

789161 2009-07-05 06:29:00 Update the BIOS. Sometimes the BIOS fixes what windows detects the CPU as. I did that with a CPU WT sent me, windows detected it as an engineers CPU or something. I updated it, now windows detects it as the right CPU. I wouldnt trust the updates from the MS site Speedy Gonzales (78)
789162 2009-07-05 07:08:00 Thanks for that!

I flashed the BIOS and that did fix the problem, the Processor now shows up correctly but the date for the processor driver is still from 2004, weird but I don't think it matters.

Thanks again.
