640781 2008-02-18 21:48:00 For some guys it is really imperative they were their high-vis vest while at work. You know what it is like - OSH would have us believe danger lurks everywhere. So while you are on the job, make sure you wear your high-vis vest - just like this guy I snapped this morning :

www.imagef1.net.nz

When I worked on construction sites I found that OSH is mostly fairly bang on. HiVis vests look stupid, but may save your life, hard hats are annoying and uncomfortable, but have a hammer claw hit it and you realise fairly quickly why they want you to wear one. Look at accident rates, not to mention deaths, in the last few decades, and you'll see that they've fallen drastically. The good old days may not have actually been so good.

640785 2008-02-19 07:15:00 Always find something interesting on this forum and loved to hear what other members are doing for a living.
Guess if I should read with such enjoyment I should contribute.

Started working life as an apprentice electrician.
Left the electrical trade after a couple of years to become a commercial pilot.
Spent over 40 years in aviation including running a small airline. Most of this time though was as an instructor on light aircraft. Still do it part time and still love it.
Flew in Kansas crop dusting. Great fun.
Flew for the US Government on classified ops.
Between jobs drove a bulldozer, a tractor and in Australia a cotton picker.
Now I am back working as a sparkie while waiting for the pension which is now close enough to touch.
Still chasing wild woman. (havent caught one for a while though) LOL.
Actually not true. Engaged to be married. Yes junior, age doesnt diminish love.
Have contacts in Russia and Taiwan, retirement plan is to teach english in these countries.
Then again I might just sit on the back porch and complain how fast the grass is growing.

640788 2008-02-19 11:41:00 Well currently unemployed. Was a former analytical chemist and head corrugated/packaging mechanical tester/auditor/technical writer/documentation writer/researcher technician, mainly for a major corporate NZ company for 22 years. Then recently managed a small new import plastics company (Thanks to WINZ) as sole employee. But now make a little from adsense/amazon ads (lunch money really) on my web sites and blogs, paid blog sites, etc. Also importing/sourcing small items online to resell via trademe. But looking for a real job...maybe back in the QA/QC industry... kahawai chaser (3545)

Yes, I read it. And I even looked at the photo. Is he on duty? You know it's not illegal to sleep whilst in your car. Even while you're wearing a HiVis jacket. I know this sounds crazy. Maybe you should petition your local MP.

640790 2008-02-20 09:26:00 So if you were an employer you wouldn't have any issues with your employees sleeping on the job? andrew93 (249)
