640771 2008-02-18 05:06:00 Pavarotti was one of the Three Tenors, I thought. zqwerty (97)
640772 2008-02-18 05:20:00 Pavoratti most definitely was NOT a baritone! He was master of the "High-C's"

Where would we be without the yanks?

One has to wonder why they called them the three tenors, would it be because the were masters of the the high c.?

640774 2008-02-18 06:54:00 Pavarotti certainly was a tenor. THE tenor of his age. I meant I'm not the next big thing, opera-wise. I could be... but I'm really not deluded enough to expect it. They were the three tenors because they were three tenors who raked in the cash singing opera standards to people who were happy to pay mega bucks for it. I would say they sold out, but I'm really in no state to judge. I would too if I had the chance. Anyway, just a marketing thing. But Pav and Domingo are the two best from the time. Pav being the amazing singer, domingo being absolutely everything else, but not such a great voice. Carreras... meh. Thebananamonkey (7741)
640775 2008-02-18 08:07:00 In reply to the original question:- I do phuck all. I'm a Pol. Sci. grad from Vic Uni. in the 70's. Did lot's of odd jobs -building sites- truck driving - that sort of thing and then went OE-and the same again. Then I got all "professional" in the 80's and went TEFL teaching in Spain - then back in Orks, same thing, then moved into the wop wops and never looked back, or forward, or anywhere else. mark c (247)
640776 2008-02-18 08:31:00 Thomas01. That's really something having worked on the TSR2! I remember that this plane was probably well ahead of it's time, expected to be a real world-beater, then the whole programme was canned by the UK Government without much explanation. It must have been a fascinating project espsially as things would have been done in what we would now consider 'old-fashioned' ways.

PS. I am a retired manager, worked for Firestone and later Bridgestone when they took us over.

Yep! Sure was well ahead of its time. The Labour party anxious to win the election announced that they would NOT cancel the project. (Too many workers on the thing).
As soon as they were in, cancelled it. Then ordered that dreadful American swing wing device. That order had to be cancelled and the compensation paid was more than it would have cost to build the TSR2.
So they spent a huge amount of money to get - nothing. When for less they could have had the most advanced aircraft in the world.
Years later one of the labour inner sanctum gave the game away. Apparently they had decided before the election to announce the TSR2 would not be cancelled - then immediately cancel it.
Don't trust politicians - or did you already know that?

Thatcher would have built it.

640779 2008-02-18 21:00:00 For some guys it is really imperative they were their high-vis vest while at work. You know what it is like - OSH would have us believe danger lurks everywhere. So while you are on the job, make sure you wear your high-vis vest - just like this guy I snapped this morning :
