641074 2008-02-20 22:32:00 In the case of Micrsoft vs Apple I would say would it be a necessity in the computing world although I would describe it as working together competitivily as opposed to "at war" considering how both companies make software that works on the others operating system.

Also I would say that both companies are going to be around for some years to come.

As for the HD DVD vs Blu Ray it will probably end up being moot as online video takes off.

That would be the Wii which is outselling both the Xbox and the PS3

now when i see MSoffice on mac, i see MS trying to make mac users dependant on their software and hoping they will switch over - and vice versa for mac stuff on pc. looking at microsoft's previous history, i think the only reason they wouldn't crush mac, if they could, is the resultant lawsuits

and i beleive i said "xbox vs ps3 vs nintendo" - and from a gamer's perspective there is no wii ;)

641075 2008-02-21 01:15:00 MS Office Mac looks ok but it is pretty bloated. I use iWork08 which is heaps cheaper as well.

The last time I used Office for Mac was the 2003 version - Word - and that was pretty bloated and crashed a lot. Right now MS can't $$$$ to crush Apple - they are having a hard enough time competing against Google...$$$$$. The only time they could have crushed Apple was back in the mid 90's but that that stage they were more interested in killing Netscape and taking over the enterprise.

Your right, from a "gamers" perspective there probably isn't a Wii, but from Xbox and PS3's perspective as well as every other "big kid" on the planet perspective...there is a Wii.

641076 2008-02-21 11:24:00 Yes of course it crashed. Crappy macs couldn;t run Office for Mac natively on Intel or whatever processors were used back then so everytime you fired it up, an emulator had to run as well which of course slowed everything down. Not MS' fault, just a bad processor and a REALLY bad Mac OS.

BTW, Office for Mac 2008 runs natively so much faster

Whats MS excuse for there crashes ?

641079 2008-02-21 22:34:00 i think that was the excuse....

had to be emulated, further bloating it and giving even more opportunity to crash due to buggy software

i'd like to hear their excuse for PC based installations

The Intel Macs were still in the works at that stage Beeswax.
We have just been waiting for a long time for MS to release Office Mac in Universal Binaries - for those that need it, the rest are on iWork which is much better suited for the majority of the tasks.

641082 2008-02-22 09:02:00 Problem is, HD DVD has DVD in the name, and Bluray doesn't.

"Let's watch a Bluray tonight, shall we?" just doesn't quite sound right

Thats the problem with us, We dont want to try anything new.
