641063 2008-02-19 23:29:00 Well the shares went up only coz shareholders realise Toshiba will be more streamlined by cutting away HD DVD costs. It no doubt will have a significant hit on the revenue for below cost HD DVD players after Time Warners announcement.

Long term Toshiba would be much better revenue wise if HD DVD had survived
They only killed it to avoid more substantial losses.

Just as well i didn't buy a Toshiba Laptop last year with a HD DVD. Thats the only good thing coming out of thus dumb war for me.
Dumb war= competition, best to realise this is needed at all times to sort wheat from chaff.

Fact remains, there can only be one winner.

why? macintosh and windows have been at war for years now:thumbs:

xbox, playstation and nintendo consoles

i'm sure there's more

(but of course by definition there should only be one winner)

Are you saying there can be two winners?,if not what is point of post.

641068 2008-02-20 02:44:00 Tell me - will there ever be a winner to the Xbox 360 vs PS3 war (just for example)

Sure, there MAY be a winner than isn't obvious...ie it will never turn out like HD-DVD vs BluRay where obviously BluRay as won, and in two years we won't see any HD-DVDs.

while, by definition there can only be on winner, making your post somewhat pointless, it is often the case that there is several different systems that are in perpetual competition

if it wasn't for the studios making a decision, who's to say the two formats couldn't continue to compete until the next generation of storage media?

In the case of Micrsoft vs Apple I would say would it be a necessity in the computing world although I would describe it as working together competitivily as opposed to "at war" considering how both companies make software that works on the others operating system.

Also I would say that both companies are going to be around for some years to come.

As for the HD DVD vs Blu Ray it will probably end up being moot as online video takes off.

Tell me - will there ever be a winner to the Xbox 360 vs PS3 war (just for example)

That would be the Wii which is outselling both the Xbox and the PS3
