641053 2008-02-19 03:37:00 Rumors floating around that Microsoft are going to bring out a BluRay player for the Xbox 360, just like they did with the HD-DVD player. Wouldn't be a bad move either, tho I'm not paying for one. --Wolf-- (128)

They will have to, or they won't sell many. Sony are going to be loving this.

Problem is, HD DVD has DVD in the name, and Bluray doesn't.

"Let's watch a Bluray tonight, shall we?" just doesn't quite sound right

Some people still say 'watch a video' when they mean a DVD - at least people I know :)

It's nice to have got it right from the beginning for once! I guess Sony are saying that as well.
Still, us the consumers told them to play nicely, get together and come to an agreement as to which system to use for their mutual advantage (and ours). But would they.... NOoooooo! Now they've both ended up paying big time and for Toshiba it's really going to hurt!!!!

Funny that. Toshiba dint actually loose that much money and their shares went up 6% right after the announcement came through that HD DVD production was ceasing. You have to look at it from a long-term point of view.

Well the shares went up only coz shareholders realise Toshiba will be more streamlined by cuttin away HD DVD costs. It no doubt will have a significant hit on the revnue for below cost HD DVD players after Time Warners announcement.

Long term Toshiba would be much better revenue wise if HD DVD had survived
They only killed it to avoid more substantial losses.

Just as well i didnt buy a Toshiba Laptop last year with a HD DVD. Thats the only good thing coming out of thus dumb war for me.
