640171 2008-07-30 23:49:00 I have another 7 months remaining on a 12 month contract and want out - and think its rude they want to charge me $99 dollars to not use their absolutely rubbish service/systems/infrastructure

You should have read the conditions. If you get a modem when you sign up with an ISP, (which is why I brought mine), thats what happens, if you decide to leave early before the contract ends. This would apply to everyone, not just you.

640172 2008-07-31 00:08:00 Yes - read the contract. Was under the impression ihug was a reputable isp. The charge is also because I have bundled phoneline and tolls with vodafone not just modem.

I have a 30gig cap which I can not reach because the connection often falls as low 756kps. I understand an isp can not guarentee speed on adsl because of line conditions. But if they base their plans on a certain amount of data being transmitted surely they must be able to provide enough service to enable the consumer to use the data. My question: Are Ihug essentially breaching their side of contract?

This would A: allow me to transfer to an isp (not an internet service viod). B: Open a nice can of worms with other disgruntled users.

Of course for every month ihug fails to provide the service they claim to should be compensated :S

BTW been on hold now for 44 minutes

640173 2008-07-31 01:04:00 Thats probably the same as Xnet .

Speeds are fine during the day, but at night, its a different matter .

Speeds (usually if you download from overseas) can be slower than a snail!

It probably applies to all ISP's . You'll never get the speed (all the time), with any ISP . Because of conditions / weather / congestion etc

I wouldnt say Ihug breached the contract .

Because if they did, it would probably apply to other ISP's as well .

Quite a few ISP's will charge you $99 if you dont stay with them until the contract runs out (thats if they give you a modem), when you sign up .

I think the main reason, why any ISP charge you $99, is because they give you the modem (which from what I've read theyre all crap anyway) .

Which is also why I brought my own modem, instead of getting it free .

640174 2008-07-31 01:10:00 I have joined this forum to say simply. IHUG SUCK.
General Question for people how bad does service have to be to justify a user claiming breach of contract.

I have anoth 7 months remaining on a 12 month contract and want out - and think its rude they want to charge me $99 dollars to not use their absolutely rubbish service/systems/infrastructure

I write this as i wait on hold - so far 37 minutes - to ask why one of my email accounts is being bounced while the other is still fine. This is two weeks after I emailed them regarding the problem, and am yet to recieve a reply

They are now called Vodafone, ihug no longer exists. How do you know the poblem isn't at your ens, as 99% of email problem are at the client end, eg firewalls, antivirus software etc.WHy don't you email them, via a webbased account.

640175 2008-07-31 01:12:00 iHug used to be very good both at service and compensating for any loss off on connectivity etc .

Here's a couple of examples of my own "compensation refunds" for connection issues .

And I also had similar responses for some people I was "the tech guy" for at the time .

They (ihug) were very good in my opinion, but alas - that was to change, first with the help desk going to Ozz, then with the sale to "VodaBone everyone"

Now they are pretty crappy with service, and compensation is pretty well non existent

reversed monthly BB charge and reduced it to half . . .

18-May-2006 -49 . 95 Reverse Monthly Fee
18-May-2006 19 . 98 Invoice # 10467611

Connection probs again for a few days - gave me whole month credit

12-Aug-2006 -39 . 95 Goodwill Credit

No "goodwill" from voda, thats for sure!

640176 2008-07-31 01:16:00 The $99 fee is what Telecom charge to connect your broadband and the ISP pays that and give you a free connection provided you stay with them for the specified period.

It has nothing to do with any free modems provided.

Yes your right - they are merging - ihug helpline and email lines still used for former ihug customers though.

After being on hold for 76minutes I got through today - my account was closed due to exessive amount of data in mailbox (i hadnt checked it for 8 days!)

BTW I emailed them July 17 July 21 July 29 July 31.
NO response to any of them.

I'll say it again IHUG SUCK

640178 2008-07-31 01:37:00 I agree safari, I'm sure that's how it goes.

I use to belong to Ihug when Ihug were Ihug, and their serivce was crap back then too.

640179 2008-07-31 01:38:00 I signed up with Vodafone/Ihug on the 18th of July for a second phone line with broadband, faxability, caller ID, etc . This is a new home based business .

It has been a complete mess & waste of time to setup . Vodafone are essentially on selling Telecoms services . They have no visibility on what Telecom/Chorus are doing for the install . The install, broadband, faxability, number change, caller ID, etc has to happen in sequence with a 2-3 day wait on each step . I want to print business cards but can't without the numbers!

It has been 2 weeks since I started the process & have only just got broadband on the new line . I am still waiting for the faxability, phone number change, tolls & services .

I have a residential line with Telstra Clear incl . ADSL and business line with Vodafone incl . ADSL . The intention was to disconnect the Telstra ADSL . The speed from the TelstrClear ADSL is twice that of Ihug . The ping time for TelstraClear is 54mSec and Ihug 112mSec .

Ihug/Vodafone sucks!

I doubt if your account was closed.
If your mailbox was over quota any new messages would be returned back to the sender with the reason for the non delivery.

All ISPs give you a limit for your mailbox and it is up to you to monitor the usage if you leave the mail on the server.
Most people don't leave mail on the server or if they do they select their mail client to remove after xx days so the problem you experienced never happens.
