2008-02-15 21:11:00 | Test Analyst (self-employed as a contractor for 8 years, employed for 5 years before that) . For those who don't know what a Test Analyst does (and I do tend to get a few blank stares when introduced to people not in the IT game): I 'play' with software and try to break it, then test it again when the developers say they have fixed it, to make sure they have . It can get a bit tedious, but I learn new stuff every day! Unfortunately, the only software I get to play with is commercial/business applications . Not too many opportunities for gaming software testing in NZ . :(

2008-02-15 21:15:00 | Nothing, at the mo. I'm looking for something. But not getting very far, in Auckland. Was previously working tho. I wouldnt mind doing something in I.T, but I have no quals And I've got enough bills, and dont feel like paying a student loan off to go to a course. Got sick of admin jobs, after 16 years I'm ICT Manager & Business Analyst for a large Hardware store (Big Is Good! :D ) that turns over $60m a year and has 200 employees, and I don't have a single qualification in IT - I studied HR Management!! So don't let that deter you Speedy - you're certainly one of the most knowledgeable peeps here! As we all know, IT evolves so quickly that keeping 'qualified' is a full-time job itself! I know many employers in the industry, and they'd much rather hire an unqualified, but reliable and hands-on person that a BIT graduate that has no life skills!! Anyhoo, that's my two cents for a Saturday morning!!

2008-02-15 21:15:00 | I’m and old retired guy that is hanging around the bone yard, waiting to get my new job “pushing daisy’s”.. LOL I used to work on the mainframe computers. I had to work grave yard. I was also the guy that got to clean out a milk shake that some ditz would spill in a key pad/keyboard (we repaired what we had). Extremely long hours. My wife once said “I should of married a doctor”. One day a week I had to work graves and days. I’m not sure if my kids know my name (I should of not married and had children). That is how I made my/our living and would not change it. My work area covered the whole earth. darroll

2008-02-15 21:36:00 | I started my own business just over year ago now. Building & repairing computers, supporting probably 50% businesses & 50% home users. Work from home as most of the work is done onsite. Just starting to do home entertainment and structured cabling installations in new homes. Also busy looking at doing lighting control & CCTV systems for new homes.

2008-02-15 21:37:00 | I'm another useless old retired buffer. Worked as a designer for years on Lightnings, TSR2, Concorde, Jaguar etc. Then the hopeless American supersonic transport (never stood a chance), after that a spell with Mattell where I met the lady who was the model for Barbie. (I'm still shaking). Finally in NZ as an industrial designer on wood products - and finished up as a Tech Drg teacher for 18 years in a girls school where the infamous M Hobbs told me I didn't know how to draw!! Gosh she was an expert at absolutely everything even without having studied anything. Gave up at that point and retired - I used to help people with design work or computers. Still do a little now but don't charge for it. Tom
