Prob summer and if I go in winter it would be a repeat of something I did prev cos it would nice to get the snow at the top with the sunrise. Summer like maybe Dec or Jan, summer maybe not in harsh winter but in mild winter still with snow. So its sometime away. I am just not sure what the scale is like by DOC standards. Do pple not take tents and trust they can get into the huts confidently? If I spent more time photography streams and other views, I want to be prepared, if I arn't going to make it maybe that 3kg tent would be good. |

You are better off going late November/December or late February/March if you want a better chance of hut accommodation, otherwise it would be advisable to take a tent . In fact I probably would put a tent in if you had room for one, just in case . I would expect the same for other walks . We have always done walks much quicker than the times DOC has listed and I'm not particularly fit so I would say they are conservative times . The fitter you are the quicker you will do them, excluding photography stops . A tip for you: try not to park your tent under a tree . A family member saw a possum jump off a branch and slide down a German man's tent, ripping it in half with its claws . The German man was not impressed, as you can imagine . :stare: |
