640486 2008-02-17 19:47:00 Thats what happens when someone has a monopoly. Which Sky (pretty much) does.

They are seriously tighter than a duck's bum. I feel your pain.

There are alternatives.

640487 2008-02-17 21:11:00 Sky is hopeless. Either get the free UHF service, or wait for someone to hack NDS Videoguard (that's the crypto they use on the sat service). ubergeek85 (131)
640488 2008-02-18 05:41:00 I heard sky looks after the baby:lol:

I wouldn't trust Sky with my pet Rat if I had one. :D

I don't think anyone will ever get around Videoguard and it will only be a matter of time before the UHF service has had its day.
Besides - most of the stuff on Sky is such garbage, I wouldn't even want it if it was free.

640490 2008-02-18 07:16:00 I think the OP got confused with weeks and months. Extrapolating from his/her posting it would cost $100 extra per month to get sports. That's rubbish! We get phone + internet (cable) + Saturn TV (Sky feed on cable) for $140 per month all up from Telstra Clear. TideMan (4279)

And you live in Hamliton or Auckland?????

Videoguard hasn't been completely broken, but it is possible to watch sky on a computer (with a valid, paid-for card). Albeit it's still a bit shakey, but progress is being made. Since this is watching your own paid-for channels, I see no reason the next few sentences should be removed. All that's needed is a 'phoenix' smart-card programmer, AltDVB and the ndscam plugin. It's only a matter of time before the chips in the cards become emulated along with the CAM. And as for not watching free sky, occasionally the encryption on Discovery (UHF) is turned off (I don't know if this is by accident or on purpose to attract more customers), it's not that bad. Dirty jobs with Mike Rowe is quite good, as is futureweapons and mythbusters. UHF will probably get turned off within a few years, but it still has it's followers. I don't know.

640493 2008-02-18 23:26:00 Pretty sure the UHF service is only still running to keep a lot of the TABs happy.
They use it for the Trackside channel and, like most customers, are not wanting to pay for Sky digital just to get one channel.

640494 2008-02-19 11:53:00 Anyway new options are coming in terms of DTH services. There is a group in Auckland well on the way to providing an alternative to Sky. apsattv (7406)
640495 2008-02-19 17:06:00 Who needs SKY.
