788785 2009-07-06 23:33:00 The margins on Laptops aren't high.
Try a real PC shop - Computer Lounge, Just Laptops, etc.

788786 2009-07-07 03:39:00 Any thoughts about HP and Compaq,
vs
Asus and Toshiba ?

788787 2009-07-07 03:42:00 An actual real HP is good - Compaq is not good.

Asus and Toshiba are both excellent.

788788 2009-07-07 03:44:00 +1 to what Wrat said.

HPs come with a lot of crap though, so be prepared...

788789 2009-07-07 03:51:00 HP merged with Compaq / now own Compaq, so it wont matter if you buy one or the other, its the same company. And probably filled with the same crap Speedy Gonzales (78)

True - HP own Compaq - but a HP Business laptop and a Compaq laptop are two very different things. The bloat is similar, the business machines come out slightly worse off but the HP laptops are of a much better build quality.

Compaq (www.hardwarezone.com)

788791 2009-07-07 03:56:00 Good thing I dont have either :p If I did, I would probably reformat it and start from scratch Speedy Gonzales (78)
788792 2009-07-07 03:58:00 Me too. ;) wratterus (105)
788793 2009-07-07 04:11:00 And dell?
cheaper online, but how do they compare?

788794 2009-07-07 04:12:00 You'll be fine unless it breaks. They are probably slightly better than Compaq. Their warranty support is very average. I wouldn't buy one. wratterus (105)
