640661 2008-02-15 09:42:00 I have a new zinwell stb - all the guff raves about the 8 day epg. but there appears to be no way to "book" it to change to a certain channel at a particular time for recording (as one cd do with sky). any bright ideas - have i missed something??

640662 2008-02-15 19:23:00 Now I know what a zinwell stb is. Might be good to post your question here.

640663 2008-02-16 02:06:00 Thats cos you need a STB with a PVR (personal video recorder) built-in, like this

www.freeviewshop.co.nz gather that he already has a recorder of some sort and just wants the STB to switch channels since it would be the source (rather than using the tuner in the VCR or DVD recorder). As for the actual question, I'm not sure.

Sue, sorry to have to tell you but it seems the Zinwell models do not have that feature. The Topfield and DishTV models do and so do some others. I guess it's too late now for you but if you get another receiver for another room or something check out the specs at www.hooktech.co.nz first. That's the importers website. Mac

640667 2008-03-03 08:52:00 My SatMax stb doesn't have that feature either.
Here are some observations/questions about FreeView:
1. The picture is beautiful and sharp - better than either Sky Digital or TelstraClear cable
2. The words are slightly ahead of the picture, which is quite weird until you get used to it.
3. The times are NZST, not NZDT
4. Channel 6 Sports never seems to have programmes.
5. Where can I get a programme listing for Showcase? It has some good programmes, but there's no listing that I can find.
6. EPG doesn't seem to work properly. Half the time, it doesn't populate and when it does it's not very illuminating.
7. The radio reception (National and Concert Programmes) is superb, especially in a remote area with no other radio.

640668 2008-03-04 11:14:00 Sorry to restate the obvious, but unless you have a timer in your STB (like you will if you buy a STB with a PVR (like my previous link, and like SKY's box)) you cannot "book" the channel to change at any time. As far as I can tell, you cant buy a stand-alone STB with a timer (a pointless exercise, dont you think, since you'd also need a VCR/DVR to set/sync with it) :drool:D feersumendjinn (64)

I recently bought a Hills STB from DSE, and it can be programmed up to 4 programs at once. The DSE was $100 cheaper but (I think it was a Zinwell clone?) had no program facility.

The picture is terrific - seems better than Sky when I flick between channels to compare.

I need 2 STB's. The one for the main TV will be a Terrestrial one for HD viewing as it comes in.
