| 640570 | 2008-02-15 04:33:00 | Mrs Misty and I are looking for a new bed. We are moving from a double to a queen. The majority of beds around seem to be what they call pillowtops. This is because their is an additional layer on top of the mattress sewn in right around. It is about ten centimetres high, I guess, and the fillings for the pillowtop are quite varied and include wool, cashmere and silk. The beds names are Sealy and Simmons etc. There is also a King Koil without the pillowtop. Were not impressed with the comfort of Sleepyhead but all the rest seemed very comfortable, some more than others. I know that to some degree it is certainly individual taste. Apparently the pillowtops have been around in the States for three years but are fairly recent here. I have been reading reviews from the States, and whilst most are good reviews the ones that are not are pretty sarcastic (mind you some people, from any country/region will find a fault with just about anything !) Has anyone on PressF1 bought one of these pillowtops and what do you think of them ? Any comments on current beds in general ? Look forward to hearing from you ! :D Misty |

But we did get a bit of PK - Product Knowledge from the Rep and he had this to say. I can tell you that the Pillow tops are comfortable, Very comfortable infact. But there are drawbacks you have to realize that it will be highly likely that your Pillow top will get body impressions that won't over time won't come out. Although this won't affect the comfort or sleep it will show up after you make the bed. You can try and eliminate or minimize it by regularly turning the mattress around. Because of the pillow top you won't be able to flip the mattress over. but they are made so they don't need too. It's the turning in your sleep that causes the pillow top to get body impressions, as it pushes the fibers back and forth every time you turn. and more heavy set people are more inclined to cause body impressions quicker and deeper than a more average weight or light person. Hope I have shed some light on your situation. |

When you say "deeper" has your salesperson any measure or way of conveying this. We are relatively light, I think, as I am 72kg and Mrs Misty not too much different. However given time we would make an impression. Does the impression take up, most or all, or a little, of the depth of the pillowtop. In other words does it become sacrificial over time ? :illogical Misty :) |

| 640573 | 2008-02-15 10:36:00 | Misty, I don't think the impression takes up the whole pillow top, more so in particular where your waist lies. Being a light couple I don't think it will be as much of a problem. If I were to recommend a pillow top, I would go for a better quality one as they are made out of better quality materials that won't impression as badly. I know that it's not impossible to void any chance of impressions being made ALL pillow tops are susceptible to it, to which degree depends and impressions aren't a warrentable issue. I have got work tomorrow and I will ask some of the sales staff for some more feedback for you. Radium |

| 640577 | 2008-02-15 22:32:00 | Bought one about 6 months ago, never had I had such awesome sleep, before I would have trouble getting to sleep, so much so that I would normally get up about 2am for a couple of hours, I would wake up sore and tired. Now, I can go to sleep with seconds of laying down, slumber all night and in the morning....well, I'm still angry at the world for the first few minutes. oh yeah, I'm 125KG, The Mrs is 52kg.......:xmouth::illogical:D |

You can get them firm, Only the top inch needs to be soft, and my back feels much better, though its pretty ruined and has deep aches and sudden stabbing pain everyday.... |

Worth the little bit extra . Totally agree . We, over 40 years, have had Double, Queen and now, King . King is just the greatest and even after a Double, seemed huge when we first bought it 5 years ago . Great nights sleep as when SWMBO has a restless night, I don't notice it . The only problem is that when you wish to whisper sweet nothings in someones ear, you have to go and find them!! A joke really, but it is a bit like sleeping in the middle of a football field at first . Ken ;) |
