789313 2009-07-06 00:04:00 Not talking here about performance or high end gaming machines, more the $1000 - $1500 entry level home/office PC.

Are you guys using AMD or Intel at the moment?

I'm finding the AMD 7750 excellent value, and seems to be a bit gruntier than the old 6000+, and compare well to the Intel E5300, which is a wee bit dearer. The E5200 is the same price, but seems to perform slightly worse over all.

What's your thoughts? :)

789314 2009-07-06 00:18:00 Using Intel (the E5200 :p) here atm. Better than nothing. I dont do anything that intensive. Was using AMD till the shop killed the mobo. The AMD mobo I had was fine, since it had everything I wanted on it (HDMI/VGA and DVI onboard). And firewire, which I use sometimes. I've still got HDMI/VGA/DVI, but theyre on a PCI-E card. All except the monitor, this system would have cost around $750 (inc the case). Speedy Gonzales (78)
789315 2009-07-06 00:32:00 I just update a mate form AMD duron @ 1Ghz to the E5200.....slow clock on @ 3Ghz was too easy....

Unless its the Phemon II, I'm sticking with Intel, just wait for Lynnfield! Cheap Nehalam!

789318 2009-07-06 01:38:00 The 7750 wins in stock performance. The E5200 chomps down on it once you overclock it though :) 7750 BE is around $129 and E5200 can be had for $120. trinsic (6945)

789320 2009-07-06 01:39:00 the AMD 7750 is the one at the moment.

This for budget internet boxes.
Intel only for gaming.

789321 2009-07-06 01:43:00 This is my mid level gaming system that I put together

XFX PV-T98G-YHF3 Green Edition Geforce 9800GT 512MB

Wouldn't want to own an XFX card - too high of a failure rate. Asus or Gigabyte.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ socket Retail CPU

Not a good choice for a processor now for any PC, it's old technology. Certainly not for a gaming PC. 7750 or higher would be better but Intel would be preferable for a 'mid level' gaming machine.

Supertalent DDR2 800 2gb retail pack w/ life time warranty

Got a lifetime warranty, can't go too far wrong. As long as there's no OCing going on it will be OK.

Western Digital Caviar 320GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive

As long as it's not a green edition drive, they are fine for storage drives but would be a little sluggish for an OS drive IMO.

Generic 450Watt Power Supply Unit

With a 9800gt? Even if it's a low power one, you must be kidding. 500w minimum and a decent brand.

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+ ATX Motherboard

That's a good choice. The Asus M4A78-E is probably better for a gaming machine though.

Foxconn TSAA 998a Silver & Black ATX Case

Nothing wrong with the case, but for a gaming machine something with better thermal managemt would be perferable. Enermax Chakra comes to mind.

Samsung SH-S223F Black Internal 22x Speed DVD Drive

Again OK, whatever is cheapest. They all have the same warranty.

Logitech deluxe 250 desktop Keybo .ard & Optical Mouse - Black

An internet 350 is nicer for gaming.

Asus VW193T 19"W 5ms DVI-D Speaker HDCP Black LCD Monitor

Fine. Viewsonic or LG with 2ms would be a better gaming monitor.

Costing around $1150 for the parts if you are building a individual system.
$1200 if you would like one :D

Maybe try a re-cost now, and build a quality PC that will go the distance, as well as getting the parts from reputable dealers. Selling the PC is only half the battle, you need to be able to support it. And having parts go missing during RMAs is not a good look. And if you used the parts you originally stated, you can almost guarantee there will be some RMAing going on. ;) I've updated a couple of bits and pieces in that quote there... :)
