789115	2009-07-05 05:49:00	Bloody Ubuntu -- no wonder some people get :waughh::waughh: Heres the Problem, I added a second drive to the Ubuntu Server ( its actually Ubuntu 9.04 - acting as a server) I'm mucking about with as the original drive is close to full. Sharing folders over the LAN was easy on the original drive: Been reading a LOT of ubuntu forums, doing what was suggested and nothing works -- The second drive is formatted in NTFS, and can be seen fine in Ubuntu, BUT as soon as I tried to create a shared folder on the second drive, it creates the folder fine, but wont share. I read you need to install NTFS config Tool (www.imagef1.net.nz) but It wont allow to share the local drive. Sharing the folder the same way as on the main drive it goes through the Motions (www.imagef1.net.nz)But when clicking "Create Share ,I get This warning / Error (www.imagef1.net.nz) -- No problems I thought, open the smb.config file - added in the line as suggested - saved, rebooted and still wont share - same error message :angry What am I doing wrong ????? Give me windows anytime ;) Edited: originally the drive was formatted in FAT32 - saw and made shares, but nothing would open them, even another Ubuntu PC.	wainuitech (129)
789116	2009-07-05 06:12:00	Did you add usershare owner only = False to the global section of the conf file? If possible, could you place the config file here with CODE tags? EDIT: BTW there is a very useful GUI tool for configuring samaba sharing in linux. sudo apt-get install system-config-samba	Blam (54)
789117	2009-07-05 06:35:00	Yep, changed the config file - didn't make any difference, ( may have put it in wrong ???) looking at the other entries following how they were laid out,went to the end of the global section, left 1 line put in # usershare owner only = False Screen Shot of Entry (www.imagef1.net.nz) ( just went back and rechecked on the spelling - was / is all OK, as per instructions I found before. and also have installed the samba config. Its only the second drive thats causing problems, the main drive is fine - I think its because I dont have ownership of it.	wainuitech (129)

I think SAMBA uses root user rights doesnt it? yep - I think thats the problem - Taking Ownership - But every thing I have read, then tried, nothing works. Its a simple setup - Installed Ubuntu 9.04, got Samba working then changed the workgroup - Made and shared files over the network and locally, can access them all, do what ever I want all work perfectly. Even created a couple of new folders (Today) to make sure ( 1 Called Microsoft) and that shares. Installed a second Drive, formatted as ntfs - after reading a bit, installed The NTFS config tool, then I get the error as posted above when trying to share them. The folder here called Disk (www.imagef1.net.nz) is from when it was formatted as FAT32 ( Which is on the second drive), it created, shared BUT "meant to be shared" but error's. I can transfer files to the second drive locally from the same PC, but the folders simply wont share.	wainuitech (129)

789121	2009-07-05 08:09:00	That smb . conf you posted - it doesn't look like you removed the hash (#) from in front of the comment, and that you have used capitals for the first letters of the line . You need to enter the line as is . Don't capitalise anything, don't add spaces, and remove the hash from in front of the line . Edit: They seem to be using a semicolon in front of the lines as well . . .	vinref (6194)

Example (www.imagef1.net.nz) The bottom Pic is vista looking at the same folders in ubuntu, the ubuntu is running / Viewing over Remote desktop from Vista.	wainuitech (129)

One thing I have noticed, even though the folder names are in Upper case, when sharing they all revert back to lower case . . . . isn't that just because Linux is case sensitive and MS Windows is not?	johnd (85)
