641932 2008-02-19 05:38:00 just a quickie, is there any requirements for entering university age wise? and what are the academic requirements? do they accept special cases?

thanks very much :)

641933 2008-02-19 05:43:00 I know of plenty of adult students who have studied at Auckland UNI so age is obviously not one of them. vitalstatistix (9182)
641934 2008-02-19 05:45:00 no im talking younger- am year 11 and finishing level 2 with mostly level 3 credits this year, and want to go to IPC next year and study full time japanese mabix (10146)
641935 2008-02-19 05:56:00 Yes they do accept special cases. They enrolled me for example! :p

But seriously, yep, circumstances, special or otherwise, do make a difference to whom they accept.

641936 2008-02-19 05:58:00 Yeah, they do accept younger people on very special circumstances. In short, you have to be a hardcore geek.

Or, you have to achieve most of your NCEA level 2 and 3 assignments with merits or excellences. You just have to achieve at a very high standard at your level or above.

641937 2008-02-19 06:10:00 Have a look here (www.massey.ac.nz) for specific info. I'm pretty sure it's standard throughout NZ aside from Auckland Uni where they rate you and get a score out of your Level 3 credits. jason_f90 (3544)
641938 2008-02-19 06:34:00 What are you wanting to study mabix? vitalstatistix (9182)
641939 2008-02-19 06:48:00 Also keep in mind some undergraduate courses are easier to get in than others. Most science courses are harder to get into than some arts, I was told.

The minimum UE does not guarantee an entry into your chosen course either. For example, I was declined UE through NCEA this year because I am missing one credit from an approved subject. Not only that, Auckland Uni informed me that even if I did have the minimum UE, chances are I won't be accepted into my chosen major (Biological Sciences) as I would have been on the lower end on the list.

So this year I have to do a year of foundation study to (supposedly) drastically improve my chances of being accepted next year.

And if you really want to get into uni next year, mabix, talk to Massey Uni and ask if they will allow you in their Certificate of University Preparation program in semester 2. It is a half year, 1 semester program that will in the end give you a certificate recognised at a university entrance standard.

Massey Uni's program will cost you $2000-$2500 depending on the papers you take (you take 2 compulsory papers, and 2 you choose from a little range of choices). And if you pass the program and want to gain your bachelor from Massey, you may be entitled to get a full refund of the $2000-$2500 fee.

641940 2008-02-19 07:13:00 I started University at the end of 6th form because school was just getting too boring. I applied for a double major course (Acctg and IT) and got accepted right away.

I had full UE in Maths and English and I dint do NCEA so of course that helped.

641941 2008-02-19 07:57:00 Also, getting a certificate that is signed by an MP at prizegiving at school for outstanding work effort helps. (And no! It was not me :dogeye: ) bob_doe_nz (92)
