641779 2008-02-18 22:29:00 I have an old Nokia 6210 phone, which I have recently resurrected. It has my name in the upper part of the display (where it originally said Vodafone NZ). I wish to change this to a different name now, but cannot remember how I originally set it. I have gone through what I thought was every menu option, but have been unable to find an option to personalise the display. Does anyone know how I can do this? :help: Miami Steve (2128)

641781 2008-02-19 01:06:00 IIRC, there's a fair bit you can do if you have a programming cable for Nokias. There was (is) an open-source program called Gnokii (sp?) that lets you do a bunch of other stuff.

On my old Nokia 3315 there was a "Welcome Note" that appeared as you turned on the phone & something to do with the screensaver for a permanent message?

The "vodafone NZ" text is associated with the SIM (an earlier SIM card I had just said "Vodafone") - perhaps in an editable field you could alter with a SIM reader/writer? (probably not much chance, but you never know...).

The thing is I'm sure it can be done through the menus - I changed it when I first got the phone years ago. I've just got it out the cupboard again and put a brand new prepay sim in it, and the display still has my name - so it is a phone setting and not a sim one.

I might try reinstalling all the software on my PC - in case that sheds any light, but I doubt it as I've never had a data cable for the phone.

641783 2008-02-19 01:34:00 Changing the name "Vodafone NZ" itself, I haven't got an idea. However, you can create a new profile specified with whatever you want, and then setting the phone to use that profile.

Cheers :)

641784 2008-02-19 01:44:00 I still have a 6210 now I tried it. Dunno .. maybe the below helps?
On mine this "name" only appears at the top left as you turn the phone on .. but then it goes away.

Settings - Phone Settings - Cell Info Display - on.
Settings - Phone Settings - Welcome Note - delete it.

Did you ever used infra red? The phone supports IR connection to a computer.

afaik you cannot personalise the text via profiles personalisation.

Thanks Nomad. I've tried the Cell Info Display option - it's not that. And I know it's not the Welcome Note as it is displayed constantly. It's not a big problem, but it intrigues me how I did it originally. :waughh:

I am sure there is a setting in there that can change it but I dont have a Nokia to try. Beware there are other technical settings in there you DONT want to play with otherwise it could brick your phone - you have been warned

Thx sam m. I did some googling with that code and reading some of the results has stirred some memories deep inside my brain. I don't have the phone with me at the moment, but I now think that it WAS changed using the Nokia software (Nokia Data Suite??) and transmitted to the phone as an OTA update :)

I will try it tonight if I get the chance.
