790682 2009-07-10 10:50:00 My current computer is 5 years old and cant run ****, so I'll be building a relatively high end new system for a game that will be released in late September.
In the meantime I'll just stick with XP, but as soon as Win7 hits I'll be wanting to upgrade to that and I'd also like to be ready for dx11.

With all that in mind, is there anything that I should be aware of when picking the components?

Many thanks :wub

790683 2009-07-10 11:14:00 At that time the i5/i3 would have been released so the i7 prices would have dropped.

Seagate or Western Digital for HDs

Probably a 4890 would be suitable for you.

Asus or Gigabyte Mobo.

Corsair, Enermax or Antec PSU

790689 2009-07-11 08:58:00 Thanks for the replies.

But the point of this thread isnt to ask for a build, its just to make myself aware of any pitfalls. Its been a while since my last dip in the hardware pool and I dont wanna make a mistake like putting 2GB ram in a 32 bit vista.

So considering that soon enough this machine will be running win7 and a bit further down a dx11 gpu, is there anything I should be aware of? Or is it as simple as just installing the new OS and swapping out the GPU?

790691 2009-07-12 01:39:00 It will only require you to install W7 and its going to be fine, there wont be new hardware as anything that supports DX10 Will be DX11 compliant Tuneznz (13203)
