| 641718 | 2008-02-22 04:55:00 | Thanks for thinking of that one Geekster !! It is excruciatingly bad. If anyone sends me stuff using Incredimail my estimation of that person plummets :annoyed:  :annoyed: Misty My estimation doesn't just plummet their emails get deleted straight off the server so I never see them again. |

| 641719 | 2008-02-22 06:35:00 | Anything 'bundled' (usually overpriced bloatware). Any driver that comes as an .exe (I just want the damn .ini's and .drv's) or puts something in my startup without asking me. Vista (it had potential, but it was quite rushed, and the new gen of DRM is one hell of a turn-off). Any DRM. Quicktime (it thinks it's the most important player on earth, when in fact I only got it to play that movie trailer in .mov format). Most any internet toolbar, except google. Windows Media Player. IE6 and below (I don't use IE7, but I do like the way it handles tabs). The screensavers that you see in those 'FREE SCREENSAVER!! CLICK HERE!!' ads (usually spyware and bloatware at that). Incredimail. Nortons. Almost any executable over 60Mb (excluding installers). Anything from Yahoo. MSN messenger. AIM. mIRC (XiRCON kicks mIRC's ass). ANYTHING FROM AOL. Anything that saves into weird formats (aka anything from Serif software). Steam. MS updates. Adobe Acrobat (can we say B-L-O-A-T). Shareware. Windows ME and 95 (98SE and 2000 were better). Stuff that changes file associations without asking. Anything from Real. Most download managers (Free Download Manager does it quite nicely). Limewire. Bearshare. eDonkey 2000. Anything that nags me 'Are you sure you want to do this?' Of course I'm F***ing sure! I wouldn't have clicked it if I wasn't! Anything that puts itself into the quicklaunch thing. Anything that puts a shortcut on my desktop. Winzip. Anything that loads itself into the system tray for no reason. Ultimatezip is a good example. It puts a quicklauncher into the sys tray, but it does naught, as UZ loads itself when I open a zip. That's all I can think of for now. Windows 95 was bad? Riiiight... |

Actually probably now that you mention it - nothing although 98SE was more stable. Microsoft doesn't know how to design a GUI although they have improved it with Office 2007 (took them long enough) |

It was 1995  But I know what you mean but then again, it got the job again. I have to say though that the webmail we use at uni looks like 1995 threw up and died and they used that as the GUI  |

It only needs to be "good enough" to get the job done. Just push the mediocrity to the masses. |

| 641726 | 2008-02-22 23:33:00 | I think that is Microsoft's mantra all along. It only needs to be "good enough" to get the job done. Just push the mediocrity to the masses. I think you are a bit tough. What they have had to do is to make compromises. It is an essential part of reaching the mass of people of who not have time or make time for all the intricacies that many of our members learn. It is the same, for instance, with cameras. The majority of people are happy with point and shoot, and the camera people compromise with the lower end of cameras with shutter speed and aperture etc on the default settings. The means, I think, that you end up with pictures that tend to be too sharply defined, but if the majority are happy then the camera people have got it right. Indeed the operating systems tend to have too many options for Fred Dagg, Trevor and Trevor, but that is what people tend to be happy with and not complain about. Misty :2cents: :) :) |
