641707 2008-02-20 19:28:00 I'd have to say, given that there is a choice of programs to choose from, the only programme....well I don't even know if you can call it a programme that actually affects the way you do things is steam.

It is the most dictative peice of crap ever.

All the other crap programs at least have an alternative, but steam actuallty controls some pretty cool stuff. Which is dumb.
Are you saying you like it?

641709 2008-02-20 21:15:00 Nero! JJJJJ (528)
641710 2008-02-20 21:16:00 lol nothing wrong with Nero. You just have to know how to use it properly.

I've used it since 6.x, and never had a prob with it.

Even tho, its bloatware.

641711 2008-02-21 21:28:00 Get AdBlock+ for Firefox and subscribe to EasyList and EasyElement filters; that got rid of the annoying flash ads and it doesn't hang anymore.

Took your advice and tried to install Firefox. This time apart from telling me umpteen times that the page was not available (or something) I managed to get it up and running. But blowed if I can see how to use it.
To simplify matters I tried the help file (some of us still do that!). To my surprise there was no response to the word "mail"

Do I assume from this, that Firefox only replaces Internet Explorer and in fact I still need to use Outlook Express?

Normally I get onto PCWorld by reading my mail notifications from PCWorld and using them to access the web site.

Firefox is the Internet Explorer equivalent.

Thunderbird is the Outlook Express equivalent.

You can use either in any combination.

Firefox is a more secure browser and has lots of useful add-ons like the ad-block one recommended here for killing the slow pressf1 problem.

641713 2008-02-21 23:57:00 Anything 'bundled' (usually overpriced bloatware).
Any driver that comes as an .exe (I just want the damn .ini's and .drv's) or puts something in my startup without asking me.
Vista (it had potential, but it was quite rushed, and the new gen of DRM is one hell of a turn-off).
Any DRM.
Quicktime (it thinks it's the most important player on earth, when in fact I only got it to play that movie trailer in .mov format).
Most any internet toolbar, except google.
Windows Media Player.
IE6 and below (I don't use IE7, but I do like the way it handles tabs).
The screensavers that you see in those 'FREE SCREENSAVER!! CLICK HERE!!' ads (usually spyware and bloatware at that).
Incredimail.
Nortons.
Almost any executable over 60Mb (excluding installers).
Anything from Yahoo.
MSN messenger.
AIM.
mIRC (XiRCON kicks mIRC's ass).
ANYTHING FROM AOL.
Anything that saves into weird formats (aka anything from Serif software).
Steam.
MS updates.
Adobe Acrobat (can we say B-L-O-A-T).
Shareware.
Windows ME and 95 (98SE and 2000 were better).
Stuff that changes file associations without asking.
Anything from Real.
Most download managers (Free Download Manager does it quite nicely).
Limewire.
Bearshare.
eDonkey 2000.
Anything that nags me 'Are you sure you want to do this?' Of course I'm F***ing sure! I wouldn't have clicked it if I wasn't!
Anything that puts itself into the quicklaunch thing.
Anything that puts a shortcut on my desktop.
Winzip.
Anything that loads itself into the system tray for no reason. Ultimatezip is a good example. It puts a quicklauncher into the sys tray, but it does naught, as UZ loads itself when I open a zip.
That's all I can think of for now.

641714 2008-02-22 01:19:00 KODAK EASYSHARE,talk about bloat,this is everywhere given the chance.

641715 2008-02-22 01:50:00 And logitech software / drivers. Especially for their webcams.

Their software puts so much crap on a system, you'll wish you had Nortons installed instead

641716 2008-02-22 02:02:00 Incredimail
Thanks for thinking of that one Geekster !!
It is excruciatingly bad. If anyone sends me stuff using Incredimail my estimation of that person plummets
