643318 2008-02-26 08:09:00 I used to use the AVG but it didnt do much, the constant update reminders etc were annoying and the scan not once ever picked anything up.

I tried Avast and it talked to me which I thought was cool like a robot! WooOo!

But it did find viruses.

643319 2008-02-26 08:10:00 If I did try NOD I would download it, and install it.

And go to the office and pay for that.

Not get the boxed version / whatever it is.

Altho Avast at the mo, is good enough.

643320 2008-02-26 08:17:00 I just wish there was one app that did Anti-Virus, Adaware and Trojans, that was small and unobtrusive and updated regualry and available for a small annual fee.

I would pay money for that to save having to spend hours working on all these apps we are recommending and fighting off threats when all I want to do is use my PC.

It is your choice to run Windows I presume, but there are other operating systems that don't require the time, effort and expense to remove viruses, trojans and spyware.
Your wish could come true with a bit of lateral thinking.

643321 2008-02-26 08:31:00 Does NOD32 tell you when it has picked up a virus?. I have it here but it has never told me I have a virus so either I haven't had a virus or it isn't working as it should.? It advises kernel updates every day though.

With version 3.0 it no longer pops up a big window that warns you of a virus infecting your computer

With this version it just comes up with a splash window exactly the same as the update window it then slowly disappears in 5 seconds.

You can always look at your quarantine file to see if it has caught any virus.

Thanks for that. I am learning more about the program. Cheers.

643323 2008-02-26 08:53:00 Currently using Avast Home Edition which is fine and doesn't use up too much resources .

If I were to use another I'd most probably go with BitDefender . Only NZ$29 for a 1 year license which is the cheapest of the lot and has some pretty solid reviews too .

643324 2008-02-26 21:07:00 [QUOTE=wainuitech;647673]Using version 3.06.621.0

It appears I have quite an old version V2.70.32 here. Can I install the latest version over the top or do I have to uninstall the old version first. Would it be worthwhile updating.?

Very worthwhile, the v3 interface is a lot more cleaner and straight forward to use. You'll need to uninstall your current NOD32 then install the new one.

643326 2008-02-26 23:35:00 I'm as happy as a clam with Nod32. Not that I get a lot of virii, but it's there, doing it's bit in the background.

The settings are a bit tricky to locate until you switch to Advanced mode (bottom Left hand corner of the Program window), this is for setting up the custom settings .
