643308 2008-02-25 17:40:00 I have been running differant versions of Nortons AV on differant computers since 1998 and have never experienced any problems. Can't say the same for McAffee PC-Cillin which completely trashed my computer.
:)I think you will find that PC-Cillin and McAfee are 2 totally different AV's

And to answer the original question - Antivir (I use free version on our Win comps)

:

You using the latest NOD engine?
Because I found the earlier one did the same thing - to my smitfraud I had had sitting on the drive for ages.

The new NOD does not complain about it at all.

Still, I'd rather have an occasional false positive than have it miss stuff.

643310 2008-02-25 20:21:00 I just wish there was one app that did Anti-Virus, Adaware and Trojans, that was small and unobtrusive and updated regualry and available for a small annual fee.

I would pay money for that to save having to spend hours working on all these apps we are recommending and fighting off threats when all I want to do is use my PC.

643311 2008-02-25 20:27:00 Avast Home if you don't want to pay for it.

NOD32 if you do- Best one out there + Comodo firewall =

What he said.

I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro rather than Comodo, simply because that is what was available at the time and I preferred it to Zone Alarm. It has always worked well for me - sadly it is no longer available because it is one of those great products that was gobbled up by Symantec - Nortons to kill the effective competition; just like Ghost.

I use the Full Monty Spyware Doctor with Onguard, and Kaspersky with the real-time protection enabled, and I can honestly say I haven't even had a mild infection in 2 years. I get the odd adtracker cookie etc, but that's it.

Can't recommend those two apps highly enough

Using version 3.06.621.0

Personally If I need Smitfraud for a job I have it on the same CD that I store the password recovery programs, if I need to download it again for what ever reason I disable Nod.( In the past)

But totally agree with what you say -

643314 2008-02-26 07:12:00 So, $49-51 to renew the licence, after a year?
Cost me more that that to renew Nod not too long ago. I'll go and check the receipt if you like Speedy ! :illogical

643315 2008-02-26 07:53:00 The RRP price for Nod32 Antivirus Single User

One Year Renewal is $48 . 44 .

Two Year renewal is $86 . 52

If you pay any more than that you're being ripped .

I do renewals for my customers @ $44 . 00 (1 Year)

You don't really want to purchase the Retail Box Version, its cheaper to get a license, then do the download from Eset, its more up to date and $5 cheaper .

Why pay for a CD/Box that's only going to be chucked in the cupboard .

It's so cool and shiny lol.

That's why I kept my prize won Vista Ultimate box rather than selling it and buy cheap OEM.

643317 2008-02-26 08:04:00 Well, since we are now throwing firewalls into the list of recommendations...

[On SWMBO Win2K SP4 computer] ... Outpost Pro and AntiVir = no problems (despite the fact her older teenage kids like to download all sorts of uh not-so-legal stuff from not-so-respectable sites). No regrets since ditching NOD, Avast, and AVG
