Not everyone wants to have credit card debt or need to rent a house or still pay off that house mortgage into their elder years or be denied a few holidays each yr say around the country or international or into their hobby ventures. They don't want to just stay at home or drive 5hrs away for that Xmas break.

Let's say you have 2 people in professional careers, say $50k before tax each. $100k, take tax off that becomes something like $75,000 leftover for a whole family. $1,500 per week on total income. If you get a loan for $500,000 say you live in Auckland or Wellington just the interest on the first week is $1,000. If you you have $250,000 cash in the bank and use that as a deposit that is still $500 in interest per week. Now you have $1,000 per week left. Maybe $500 go towards mortgage repayments and you have $500 left for electricity, phone, gas, food, insurance, the car, child care and holiday trips.
