642455 2008-02-22 21:38:00 Whats the big deal about a few adverts

If anyone heres computer is slowing down because of the ads, they must have a blardy old PC. Just because its a computer forum run by a computer magazine dosen't mean it has to be perfect.

question (1) No big deal - I never even glance at the adverts so really not qualified to answer this question. But I do know that now they are back my computer drags at snails pace when on this web and nowhere else.

Question (2)
Yep I do have an old computer - on pension I am not able to afford the latest job though I do have a very helpful technician to call on and he makes sure that it is updated with good stuff. (Hard drives, motherboards, DVD writers etc) Needless to say modifications are spread out over time.
I wonder about your word "blardy" - this is a new one on me - I like it - but there is no mention in my dictionaries. Did you invent it yourself, or does it have a history?

Nobody expects the site to be perfect - I don't think anybody has mentioned that.
But I do think it should be at least as good as some of the privately run odd ball websites I go on.

642457 2008-02-23 05:31:00 Agreed. This is the worst site I know of.
Incredibly slow.
For a computer magazine too where one would expect the site to be an example. (Well it is!!).
Still the advertisments are back. One day I may even have a look at them.

How many sites do you go on Tom? Your statement seems a bit OTT (over the top)

Every page I click on between the two forums here loads pretty well instantly (well in a matter of seconds anyway) and my puter is nothing spectacular - just a run of the mill Acer out of the box

The problems come and go, and it seems to be ok at the moment. Maybe it is something to do with how many people are using the site at a time, because it is worst during working hours.

Strange!
Firstly I must admit to not being one of those who spend hours every day surfing. But I do go on a heck of a lot - normally in search of some information. Yesterday for instance looking up "Showboat" - the film.
So I don't think I am OTT.
And PCWorld is my favourite site - because of the threads, assistance etc.
But it is strange how some people do not seem to have any problems. I am stuck for ages sometimes, and this entry of mine I know will take FOR EVER to be accepted. Ages and ages - so that I get bored waiting. To be honest I think it will have been accepted and it is just that I do not get any message saying it is on.
My server is SLINGSHOT.

Thanks Baldy I followed the second link (the first didn't work).
Bit disappointed to find the Australians are responsible but I am now looking for any excuse to use it.
My spell checker picked it up as a mistake and suggested Baldy as a replacement.
I thought that was apt.
Blardy good.
