| 641425 | 2008-02-18 20:36:00 | Yep. It annoys the heck out of me because it makes responsible people have to go far too fast in the passing lane to get past people who want to do 80 or 90. The other thing I can't stand is people in cars far more powerful than your own who tailgate you dangerously in the passing lane when you're already at full throttle passing someone, The second lot you mention are thinking the exact thing you say in your first comment. |

I would happen to agree with the drivers who tailgate during passing, if the person behind you has a more powerful car, or is following closely, let him pass first. I get annoyed when someone in front of me pulls out to pass on a passing lane, and sits at 95 or 100, passing someone who is doing 90, then I either have to get stuck behind one or both of the slow vehicles, or use lots of petrol gunning the mighty Nissan past the both of them, generally speeding rather a lot in the process. (3rd gear at 90 gets the car to 135 in under 8 secs) :p So much fun...but so much petrol! :dogeye: |

| 641427 | 2008-02-18 20:51:00 | Say it loud and proud. Back in Indonesia there is nothing called the give way rule. It's whoever dares to go first. Oh, and the only risk to speeding is crashing. Cops? Pah. Give them a cigarette or 20 bucks and they're off your back. It all depends on who (where) you're comparing with. Certainly NOT all Asian countries are like Indonesia or India. For example, if you were to try this 'trick' in Singapore, I can't imagine what results will you get! :D And, my advice is, NEVER try it when you are there! Just be a good, law-abiding and obedient driver - follow their traffic codes/law as everyone does (of course, not all of them). Whatever it is, Singapore has one of the most orderly traffic in the world. AND, most importantly, Singapore is in ASIA. To sum it up, what I'm trying to say here is: Not All Asians (countries) are the same; similarly, not all Kiwis, or Europeans, or whoever, are the same. |

| 641429 | 2008-02-18 21:59:00 | This one is a real doozy and we could not believe what we were seeing. We were driving from Foxton to Wellington and at a certain point we came accross this car doing 70k in the outside lane. We waited and waited to see if she would pull into the left lane but she kept hogging the outside lane. We then noticed the woman looking in the rear veiw mirror every few seconds patting her hair and putting on her make-up with one hand on the wheel and weaving all over the road!! We could not pull into the inside lane because of the traffic. Well, we watched this fiasco for about 10 minutes- still trying to get into the left lane when this drongo took both hands off the wheel to rearrange her hair with a bloody comb in her right hand!! The car weaved over to the inside lane and I took the opportunity to pass (doing 130k). On passing we looked over to find there was a baby strapped into the back seat!! Having just passed her, a cop coming the other way simply gave us a flash to let us know we were over the speed limit. If we had our cell phone with us I would have potted her. It's just a pity the cop was a few seconds late in approaching us otherwise he might have seen what was going on. |

| 641430 | 2008-02-18 22:28:00 | don't get me started ! a few days ago i had a truck and trailer that cut across 3 lanes on the exit of a corner causeing all the traffic to come to a screaming smoking halt . :( and yesterday the amount of yafa's going to and from mangawhai . most where going slow and spending half the time on the wrong side of the road around corners . its not so much as bad driving but certainly LAZY driving . compared to overseas? don't really know . i've heard plenty of horror stories about bad drivers in other countrys (italy !) but also plenty of people who say we are nuts . quite a few people mention that our roads are very narrow . |

Just relax and stay there, you'll get there just the same, you're not on your way to a fire you know. Hell, I don't fret being stuck behind tractors doing 40km. |

| 641433 | 2008-02-18 23:11:00 | [QUOTE=wratterus;645490]There was, it was the worst bridge in the country. They just finished What's the matter with you wratterus? Don't you have a sense of adventure?;) The noise of a train crossing overhead at the same time you were on the bridge would scare the hell out of you if the state of the moving, rattling deck didn't. And what about the exciting times when you were confronted with a large truck coming toward you? The driver had no intention of backing up, so you did! What fun! Great times remembered fondly. Who were the sissies who built a new bridge? Live dangerously, I say. I also notice that The Great Kiwi Clobbering Machine is still alive and working well. |

I, on several occasions have had to reverse down that bridge, the worst was at night with a trailer. :stare: Mainly heading from Nelson to Chch, and when the Lewis was closed 'cause of snow I'd take the coastal route. And if you happened to be unlucky enough to have a freight train pass over you, generally with full containers just coming off the Interislander, you could see bits of wood and crap falling onto your windscreen, as the train passed overhead. Bad times. |
