641595 2008-02-27 03:54:00 It stands to reason that slow drivers affect EVERYONE, how can you dispute this?

Stress less.
I cruise calmly behind tractors until such time as its safe to pass. I don't fret or rage.

And the other day I was behind a rather interesting one, an old coal steam driven traction engine. Motoring along with its trailer of coal behind it at an approximate speed of 5km. On a 100km road............

I enjoyed looking at it until I passed.

641596 2008-02-27 04:15:00 Just a quick view to those who feel 80Km is okay on the open road.

Any driver who travels less than the speed limit and slows other drivers is I feel being inconsiderate to every other driver that they effect period, while so called frustrated drivers like myself have no effect on anyone else while we travel at the speed limit.

Nomads comment about slowing traffic up and generalisations of Newspaper print really show up some of the idiotic posts in this thread...

Good day

After the ban you said the above and picked on my name. Get a grip mate.

Maybe you are just too good as a driver. I am I am no way as good as you are

641597 2008-02-27 04:31:00 Jumping to conclusions I see . Where did I say I tailgate or that I was the best driver .

Maybe you should take care to read peoples posts 1st before making rash judgments .

It stands to reason that slow drivers affect EVERYONE, how can you dispute this?

Fine . I suggest you call the cops and take me off the roads then . Man . . . Ok I don't always drive at 100km, is that a crime . I am a defensive driver . I am a grandpa or whatever you called people . Jeez .

I hope I am not in your way .

Seriously why don't you just piss off and get a life .

Any more and the thread will be closed.

641600 2008-02-27 05:10:00 i think solmiester has a very valid point - provided it is safe and legal to do 100kph, why the hell not?

and yes, putting on your left indicator and pulling over it a very simple solution for everyone - you get to continue you gentle cruise to wherever, and the guy behind you doesn't get frustrated

though there really is no excuse for passing right before you intend to turn off.... (man i hate it when you finally pass someone right before they turn off though)

It's not always possible on alot of roads to pull over far enough to create an extra 'lane' for the following vehicle to pass.
I often shudder when I see slow vehicles move right over to the left (over the white line onto the dirty road) only to suddenly have to veer back onto the road because they either run out of room or come across an obstacle. What they are saying is 'come on, get on and pass me now regardless of what's coming in the opposite direction'.
All that's required is they keep as far left so following traffic can have a clear view of the road ahead and judge for themselves when it's safe to pass, without being invited to 'squeeze' through a makeshift lane.

What you find is drivers here get frustrated following anything, regardless of the speed that vehicle is going. Sit safely at 100k on the open road and you will still get tailgated and overtaken. The people who get irrational frustration at being inconvenienced for a short while at 80k exhibit exactly the same behaviour at 100+k. Something in their brain convinces them that they will arrive at their destination alot more quickly. More often than not, they will overtake and then either not pull away, or they will turn off, or they will just get stuck behind the next slower vehicle ahead. Hardly any time gained at all for alot more effort. They don't look at their speedos, and they don't fully anticipate the road ahead - their one and only focus is getting ahead of the car in front.

you're absolutely right, except alot of people aren't nutters but do find 80kph to be a waste of their time if 100kph is safe

you can't just lump all people under the same label of "will tailgate nomatter what". if you're doing 80kph they have an excuse, do 100 and you'll find it isn't so bad

there's always going to be idiots - nomatter what country you're in - all you can do is keep left and hope they pick a safe time to pass

641604 2008-02-27 05:47:00 now enough about speeding: what about those ******s that tear up the side of a queue of traffic and at the last moment try to duck/force into a gap, causing all sorts of havoc behind them and further causing the queue to slow down

on the northwestern, approaching spaghetti, they had to add an extra port lane before there was a fatal accident from people doing that sort of thing... that's a few km of motorway given an extra lane, paid for by the rest of us, because some people are impatient, inconsiderate, and oblivious to the fact they are a hazard and should wait like the rest of the population
